View Full Version : Is my little man lazy???
Hi,
Just wanting to know when all your bubs started to hold their own bottles when drinking their milk? My son who is 13 months just hates it when I make him hold his own bottle. He'll drink about 2 or 3 sips then gets frustrated as he hasn't learnt to lift the bottle up in order to make the milk come out. I practise with him each morning when I know he's hungriest but he's just not interested and I have to sit there feeding him while he takes his time when I need to get ready for work. My sister and mum are telling me he should've been doing it already and that he's just spoilt. Is this true? Please tell me there are other 1 y/o's that still don't self-feed their bottles.
Thx

I don't think he's lazy (or spoilt!!), some babies just don't do it.
My DD will hold her own bottle (she pretty much has from day dot), but that's because when she has a bottle, she is lying in my lap.
When she drinks water from her sippy cup, she doesn't seem to understand that she needs to tip it up. She'll wander around sucking on the top of it for a while & then get frustrated & just drop it. She'll only drink properly from it if someone is there holding it up so the water comes out!
Give him time. He will learn!

:o :o mine was about 14 months old.....and he was just spoilt!! My mum ended up buying those handles you put on the avent bottles and that made him want to hold it - although I ended up having to take them off cause he started playing with his bottle when it was sleep time.
i have just taught my son to hold his bottle, now he shows off and does it one handed but he has to be laying down
i just strapped him into the pram and had him laying down then gave him the bottle and propped it up with a nappy, he eventually got sick of it falling over and learnt how to hold it himself! If you do try this though dont go away incase they have any problems. i just sat to the side so he couldnt see me because i found when he could see me he wouldnt do it! now he wont let me feed him though!
my ds has held his own bottle from 4months onwards except on the odd occasion, but he does have a bit of difficulting tipping it up wen he is sitting up

My DS didn't hold his own bottle til he was around 18 months (if not later) and only having a bedtime bottle. Until that time he still had all of his bottles laying in our lap.
And it wasn't because we wouldn't let him hold it, he just preferred to lay there and snuggle while we held it which suited us fine.

does it really matter?? My dd doesnt hold her bottle she is nearly 14 mths. she only has one bottle before she goes to bed and she lays in my lap to have it and i hold it. i like the cuddles and its prob the longest she stays still so i cherish it! she has a straw cup during the day and she will hold that.but i dont think it really matters if they dont ever hold their own bottle!
