 We did it. As most of you know DS is a shocking sleeper - up 4-6 times a night srill at 19 months, so we decided to try a modified version of dr jay gordons night weaning as he fed to sleep every wake. It has worked! I thought id share a quick journal with all my fellow sleep deprived mums. Ihope it may help sone of you.

So about a month ago we tried to stop feeding to sleep, milks are for morning etc, it was hard so we took it really slow, and very often still fed to sleep on the night wakes. If ds got upset, we would feed a bit more but encouraged him to fall asleep in our arms rather than on my boob. It took 4 weeks, but we switched successfully to rocking without feeding.

Then 4 days ago, we tried dr gordons next step, putting down awake. First night, there were tears :(. Mumma, up, milks, noooo) from ds when placed in his cot. We picked him up each time and tried again when calm. It took, 2 hours for him to fall asleep- but he was never alone in that. He woke at 11 pm,and took 40 mins to go back down, then woke at 2.30 and went down again at 6 am. It was a hard night, but very few tears, just mr stubborn not liking the change.

Night 2 - we switched to a single bed. He loves laying with me in it an having feeds and stories, so we rhought we wohld try it.rearranged his room, saftey rail on etc. 7 pm, read books, into sleeping bag, cuddles and feed. Layed in bed awake at 7.20. He didnt cry, protest or try and get up.i talked to him quietly, letting him hold my hand, or having a hand on him 40 mins later he was asleep. He slept through tim 5.30 has a feed, back asleep at 6.30. Until 7.20 am.

Night 3 asleep at 8 about 40 mins to settle, awakeat 6.15

Night 4 asleep 7.50. Awake with nightmare at 10. Dh calmed him, asleep again at 10.30 and up at 6.15

Hoping it continues and increases to 11 or 12 hours sleep- but so much better. We need to work on daysleeps mow- but going to wait and let ds settle on this routine for a while first.

Hope this gives som of the cronic sleepless some hope. It took 19 months of no sleep- bu is getting better now.
