What exactly is this ftb supplement? I jjust received a payment of 1049 that says family tax arrears. I have no idea what this is and wasn't expecting it.

Is it only if you chose to have the tax taken out each fortnight or is everyone eligible anyway?

Do I have to ring Family Assistance to tell them I don't have to file a tax return?

If you are eligible for FTB part A you will get $700 odd per child
If you are eligible for FTB part B youll get another $300 odd per family.
Also arrears can mean money you are owed due to overestimating.

amyo - sounds like yours is the supps if you have 1 child. You get it because the FAO use it to offset debts at tax time, however if you dont have a debt you get the payment.

You need to tell centrelink you dont need to lodge, if you are partnered youll need to wait for your partner to do their tax

The *reason* for it is to my understanding they automatically withhold a portion of ftb part 1 & 2 - just in case you underestimate your incomes - so that you don't owe them any or much money. Or they just give it back to you as a 'bonus' - but yeah I think it's there to avoid having families owe the family assistance office money.

Mine took ages to come through last year.
