My DS is 6 months old and Im just inquirying on teething. He has been a bit miserable lately and he has been drooling heaps. He also has had flushed cheeks. I've checked his mouth and he has no teeth coming through yet. How do you know when they are actually teething? Ive been looking for those white specks on his gums and I havent seen any yet. Can he get all the signs of teething with no teeth coming through?

When my son was 6 months he was just not himself for a couple of days and had a slight temp and fluey type symptoms (runny nose, drooling etc).

I also couldnt see or feel any teeth. I remember checking at 4pm and there were no signs. At 6:30, he opened his mouth and I could see that a tooth had poked through.

He still gets these symptoms when he is teething (he is 15 months now).

He probably is - it's about the right time ! Give him lots of cuddles ! :)

Teeth can be moving around in bub's gums and causing pain well before you'll see any sign of them, or even feel them under the gum. From time to time DD will get unsettled, very clingy runny nose, and waking more at night, and I grumble and groan and wonder what's going on - and nearly always a tooth shows up a few days to a week later.

Oli is only 3 months...is that too early to think that he is teething??

reading this forum, oli seems to have some of these symptoms..... I checked his gums and noticed a smallish white spots and he just hasnt been himself for a few days. He is drooling everywhere!

Its kinda exciting to think that a tooth might appear in the next week :p

It is possible that Oli is teething ... teeth can come at any time and some babies are even born with them!

For my kids, I hated using the teething gels etc as they didn't seem to give a heap of relief ... I used to give them ice cubes when older ... just sit them in thier highchair to play with them, suck on them and the only mess is a bit of water, and when younger I would wrap a frozen piece of fruit or ice cube in a muslin cloth and put that on baby's gums. It seems to give relief without making them more sniffly or agitated. Just make sure that a bare ice cube isn't held on baby's gums as it wcould cause a freezer burn to occur.

btw. there was one teething gel that I liked and it was one made by my then local pharmacy. See if your local pharmacist has one that they make on site ... they are often just a bit stronger in the pain relief side of things (used to make my fingertip numb while applying it!) and you only need to used a little at a time.

thanks Kyra i will take that advice and use it!

Still no sign of teeth...although the mysterious white fleck is still on the gums.

And to my annoyance he has started waking through the night again. I am not used to it and now im cranky and tired
