View Full Version : Susoected Child Sleep Apnea
We have just been to our paediatrician, who has sent a referral to an Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist because our daughter has very large tonsils (not as a result of an infection) and has " a history of obstructive episodes and recurrent nocturanl waking". I know that it can be quite a long wait to see ENT specialist through the public system, I was just wondering if this would be classed as a priority as it is suspected sleep apnea?
Thanks

how old is your little one.
It was about a 2 year wait before my (then) 13 year old even got the answer that she had sleep apnea and needed her tonsils and adenoids out. we were told it would probably be another 12 months before she got the op but I switched back to private and had it done within a week.
DD2 I as fortunate and they skipped the testing that could only be done in the public system and diagnosed based on a recording on my iPhone.
I hope that the wait isn't too long for you. :hugs:

Hi There,
Any more luck with your little one? I just saw an ENT surgeon on Brissie (yesterday) who has scheduled surgery for my 3.5 yr old to take tonsils & adenoids out :( He doesnt get sick often, and has only had 2 ear infections, but snoring and apnoea was waking him at night and its getting more frequent. No sleep study was mentioned, she just checked him out and said that he needs the adenoids out and tonsils are semi enlarged and should take them out at the same time, or we run the risk of needing them out in the future. Sigh, Im sorta freaking out thinking of my little one having surgery at such a young age...where are you with everything?
xx, Kristi :hugs:
