Biting whilst feeding!!

Hey all,

Just a quicky query if anyone out there have any tips on stopping babies biting as they are feeding. My son is 8months old and bites me :eek: every single feed. He used to do it before teeth, then stopped and now has resumed it, with 5 teeth! It is getting rather painful, but I don't want to stop feeding just yet, am trying to feed until 1 year old. Any ideas PLEASE!!!!

No, no effective tips sorry! But each time I went through it (it was in phases) it only lasted about a fortnight. It was totally teeth-related for us, and they do teeth on and off for 2-3 years so the biting does come and go. But as they get older it is easier to help them understand that it is painful and unacceptable or 'no milk'.

I have had the same thing happen with my 5 month old - no teeth yet, but they are on the way. I rang the Breastfeeding Association and they said that the first time he does it say 'No' loudly and take bub off the breast for one minute. The second time it happens, so 'No' again but this time put him on the floor for 5 minutes before putting him back on. I tried and it worked...

My daughter bit me for the first time last week - 2 bottom teeth. it was still hurting hours later. I took her off for a while and she hasn't done it again.

I found that putting my son down and letting him try again in a few moments worked for us too. Now as we go along, I deal with other types of rudeness while nursing in the same way with great success. We have made it to 23 months and going strong! :D
