i have 2 questions, first is when will my nipples stop hurting, sometimes zoe feeds for what feels like 1/2 an hour or more and i get so sore, i was told she was attaching correctly, so is it just because my nipples arent used to it yet?:(
and second, yesterday it was really warm here and it felt like she was just feeding all day and was really unsettled, do you think it might have been the heat doing this or something else? im sure she would be getting enough milk it leaks out of me and she put on 100 grams the day we left the hospital.......i want to keep bf zoe its so much easier than ff, i just want to know when its going to get better?
thank you:D

First up, hugs for you! :hugs:
Having a newborn is such hard yakka isnt it!
As for the sore nipples, I found that mine settled down after a couple of weeks. Maybe you could try breastfeeding in different positions and see if that helps?
And as for yesterday regarding the heat, she was probably thirsty!

LOL! I used to find lying down one of the most comfy positions too.
:yelclap: For you trying BJ, my nipples hurt for about a week and then it all got better, you should lather them with Lasinoh you can buy it from the chemist in a purple tube. This will help heaps, if you can go bra-less for a while.
Zoe might be on for what feels like all the time, but this is a good thing she is getting you breasts to produce lots of milk at first it's just the colostum and at around day 3-5 your milk will come in and she may suck and suck as YAY she's got what she's after, at around 6 weeks old your breasts will know how much milk she is wanting and regulate themselves a bit better.
It's exhusting and tiring and very emotional at first and painful but I am a real advocate for BF and think you should stick to it if you can for as long as you can, if it works for you it works if it doesn't it doesn't but at least you can say I gave it my best shot! It does get easier and less painful lol
First of all congratulations on Zoe's safe arrival!
If your attachment is fine then the bruised feeling in your nipples will settle down in a few days time - and as Pixie said - all that feeding is about getting your milk supply established - basically they can't feed too much and if she is putting on weight and filling her nappies then all is good! Keep up the good work!

Hi,
Congratulations on the birth of your baby.
Here (http://www.kellymom.com/bf/start/basics/latch-resources.html) is some information to help with making sure your Latch and Postioning of baby are spot on.
Good work, it does get a lot easier.
my ds is 10 days old and mine settled when he was about a week old. i used lots of lansinoh though.

You will get it right - it takes a couple of weeks for your nipples to really get used to it.
You're doing such an amazing job - congratulations !:smiliedance:

Hang in there Bronny - it will certainly become easier. I know what you mean about the sore nipples. I am feeding DS still and omg this pregnancy my nipples are soooooo sensitive and every little suck he does is really painful - yet I know I have the attachment correct:thumbsup: . Remember your nipples won't stay that sensitive - they will somewhat toughen up (in a way).;)
Hi BJ,
Congrats on the safe arrival of your baby girl.
I can't offer any more advice, as I think the other mums have given you all the advice you need.
I just wanted to say, keep up the good work! It does get easier, and like you said, is so much more convienient then FF. :yelclap:
Hi BJ,
Definitely try bathing your nipples in salt water between feeds. It's feels great! Soothing and helps them heal quicker.
I'd possibly have attachment looked at by someone else. Some of my friends were told they had correct attachment by midwives in the hospital, when in fact it wasn't spot on. I had to teach them to curl bub's bottom lip back after latching.
If attachment is right then it shouldn't hurt so much while feeding, even with damaged nipples - it should be almost pain relieving for you to feed!

im sure its an attachment problem, so im trying out different positions ive got the left side down...no pain, my right side is the problem if i lay down its better or the football hold.....also i think i need to sit up a bit straighter.......i'll get it im so determined i love not getting up to make bottles:smiliedance:
Try making a nipple sandwich for her to attach well in the 'early days' Sometimes when Cobey has a lazy latch I have to do this for him. Basically, I hold my hand just above my ariola, squish it a little and make sure I fully put it in his mouth.
(but try not to hold your hand in the nipple sandwich way all the time, can lead to plugged ducts)
As everyone has reassured, it DOES GET BETTER!!! I forget how long it took for us, but we only have 9 weeks up on you, and Cobey finds it himself, attaches and sucks it down quickly!
I found it took a week or so also at the start i did have pretty sore ones cause she sometimes wouldnt attach right.
I also find lying down the best way to feed EJ - It was/is easier on my back lol If i remeber rightly? this is also good if you let down fast cause gravity slows the flow a little.

:hugs: to you it will settle down soon. We love the lying down position it is so relaxing. My nipples hurt for about a week or so.
Can you please explain to me the lying down position?
Thanks
lie down on your side, facing baby.
lie baby down on its side, facing boobie!
Attach and relax! :D
(note, you may have to adjust the height of your boob or your baby, when cobes was smaller I'd have to put a nappy under my boob to raise my nipple for him.)
