hey all. i went and saw a naturopath 3 weeks ago and she put me on a liver cleansing diet. i did it for 2 weeks and felt so much better for it, but bub seemd to suffer from it. his sleeping through stopped and he seemed hungry more often. i was concerned about it and so i called the lactation consultant. she said that they are not reccomended during breastfeeding. in fact they will always try and convince you not to do it while BFing. the diet saw me cutting out all dairy and all sugars, and most breads. this is bad for bub as he wasnt getting the 5 food groups from me so therefore wasnt getting as much nutrients as he needed either. i went off the diet. and 4 days later, he has slept through again for the past 2 nights. now i am just going to stick to eating healthier, but eat a lot more now. i highly recommend speaking with a lactation consultant before making any changes to your diet while breastfeeding. i was told im lucky my milk didnt dry up with how drastic the change was.

PLEASE TAKE CARE WHEN DIETING AND PLEASE, ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR LACTATION CONSULTANT BEFORE MAKING CHANGES.

i say call the lactation consultant and not the gp as they specialise in knowing these things.

thanx for listening.

It's great that you have posted this to warn others.
I looked into it while I was BF and luckily the chemist asked me if I was BF (which your naturopath should have).
She said that the diet is to eliminate toxins from your body and they are released into your breastmilk.
Also good point about the missing food groups and nutrients.
Now I always ask if its safe while BF - natural therepies, medicines etc.

Thanks for sharing this. I am surprised that a naturopath put you on this sort of diet while you are BF. An experienced NP should know better than this. I guess the moral here is to check out the specialist befroe hand and ensure that they are experienced and/or knowledgeable in the area you are seeking help in.

she came highly recommended d is apparently highly experienced. wont be going again while BFing. i was suprised. i told her i was BFing, and she said it was totally ok to do it while feeding. thats why i recommended speaking with a lactation consultant on the matter. they specialise in this info.

Think its more recommended because of the toxins that it would release (seeing as you are doing a detox), I dont eat dairy, bread, sugar and a few other things, and bub is thriving on the boob
