View Full Version : laparoscopy help
Hello everyone!
I am new here and have a question stright away. Due to my husbands work we live overseas already for 2 years. Although we have a daugher (7 years old) I can not conceive for the second time. My first pregnancy was a result of laparoscopy done at Mater Hospital (Brisbane) 8 years ago almost a month after (no other treatment was done). All of us planning to come to Australia for holiday in October and planning to organise a laparoscopy. Eventhough we are Australians we can not use Medicare rebate as residing at this moment overseas. Could anyone give me some estimates on how much would the cost of laparoscopy plus tests be in private hospital (possibly in Brisbane). Would really appreciate your answers.

Hi I have had 2 lapaorsocys in the past month, 1st because I am having trouble concieving and 2nd because my tubes were upsidedown.
Went to private hospital and all up including my doctor, test etc was about $4000 for each operation
Hi Helen!
Thank you for your message. I have been trying to find the information on the oz internet sites about how much can laparoscopy cost in private clinic but without results. Also tried to contact hospitals with the same question but got responses without figures. So you are sayng that $4,000 with appoinment and tests will enough to have in a pocket. Is this after or before any rebates? Because as we are living overseas at this moment (due to my husband work) we can not use our medicare cards for the medical treatments not until we return to Australia. Can I ask you what hospital did you go to for the laparoscopies?
Kind Regards
Lena

Hi Lena,
I was quoted $800 to have a laparoscopy done privately at Freemason's hospital in Melbourne, however I can't remember if this was after the medicare rebate or not. This was just for the day in hospital - it was $160 for the initial appointment with the OB/GYN (that was before the rebate).
I would suggest calling some private OB/GYNs to get an idea of how much it costs - usually they have an assistant who will know what the going rate usually is, and what the amount is before medicare rebates. I don't know any in Brisbane, but I'm sure some of the lovely ladies on BubHub will be able to suggest some people for you to call.
Good luck! :hugs:

Hi, yes this was before any rebates, my doctor was around $1000, then the hospital was around $1700, plus you have the anaesthietist and any other medication and test etc they need to give you. Alhtough every one is a bit different, my second one had complications and was a bit dearer....Just ring a specialist and they will give you a qoute, just remember the docotors qoute does not include the hospital fee and anaesthietise fee, etc.
Good luck
Hi girls!
Thank you for your posts. It really helped me to understand the cost of the laparoscopy. I have already called Dr Molloy(QLD Fertility Group), got some quotes.
