Hi,

We currently have DD - 2 yrs, DS - 6 months and are thinking about having a 3rd, probably about a 2 year gap between DS and No 3 if we can manage.

A real concern is options to fit no. 3 onto the back seat - we currently have a Mazda 6 and would prefer not to buy a bigger car if possible. We also will not use the 'bum seat only' type seats - we will only use proper booster and car seats.

Could people give us some feedback on how they have managed this issue? Can you tell us what types of car seats you have used to make them all fit!!

TIA.

The only way I can fit my 3 in are:

7mth - reversible car seat
2yr - upright "old" child restraint
4yr - "bum only" seat in the middle with racing harness belt.

I stressed majorly over this, looked at the bigger car, looked into ALL The seats but couldn't find any that allowed me to suitably do up the seat belts in the middle of them (ie booster seat with normal seat belt) I even tried putting 3 seats into a 4 wheel drive, they STILL Didn't fit.

I am STILL looking around for seats that fit, so may keep my eye on this thread to find out if anyone has an answer.

There seems to be more and more car seats on the market these days that are designed for more compact cars. There are even ones that the base twists around so it is easier to get bubs in in a smaller car.

Perhaps you could go to your local baby store and ask them to show you a few and try them in your car so you can see how well they fit before you buy them.

Good luck.

I have a Ford Focus and I can fit 3 car seats along my back seat. I can fit a Safe n Sound Royale 0- 4 yrs (with the base) a Safe n Sound Galazy Classic 0-4 yrs with out the base and a Advantage booster seat (the one that anchors in to the car)
It is a bit sqashy I must admit mut they do all fit. I use a seat belt extender for the booster seat so i am able to do up the seat belt easily. Hope that helps a bit.

I have just been having this dilema.
I have a IGC Go Safe reversible for new born, Safe n sound Peagasus booster for 3 year old in the middle and not sure what the other is called for my 2 year old.
Our problem was being able to do up the booster seat. I have just had fitted a new middle lap belt with an extendable buckle. So know there is no reaching between the seats to try and buckle him up.
Depending on your car type you can get extensions for the buckle if that is a problem
We have an 89 Commodoore

Try the baby stores,Big W and Target or maybe a hardware store?
You might have to eing around first though.
Good luck!

Hey Shezi - Did you end up getting one of those seatbelt buckle extenders? I saw your other thread and have been trying google and searching on ebay for them and just can't seem to find any.

What did your DH search for on ebay?

Thanks heaps.

I am looking into this as well. I have a nearly 3 year old currently in a Maxirider and a 9 month old currently in a Safe n Sound Compact Deluxe. We are trying for no. 3 but don't want to buy a new car (currently have a Toyota Corolla wagon). I looked at a baby shop today at the Infa - Vario Kid booster seat which is a slimline booster that anchors to the car. It will fit in between the two existing seats. The only problem though is reaching the buckle to clip the belt in everytime. It can be done but will be a bit of a pain. Might be easier with this booster on the outside instead of the middle though. I also asked at the baby shop and at Supercheap Auto about a buckle extender but they couldn't help me. I might call the Toyota dealership and see if they can put me in the right direction. I would really be interested if someone knows where you can get these from.

We have 3 car seats side by side. 1 safe n sound forward facing car seat, 1 maxi rider and then another safe n sound forward facing seat. Its squishy but it works. We own a prado. Its so funny to see them all lined up and then our eldest sits in the very back. We cracked up when we looked at it from the front

We also have a Mazda 3 and I know they are quite roomy cars and I believe the Mazda 6 is even wider. You should take your car down to the baby shop and test it with the seats in. They might just fit. Better to try that first b4 looking at alternative cars.

Good luck with it all

I have solved this problem yahoo!!! I looked up Seatbelts/Child Restraints in the Yellow Pages. The company I spoke to said you can get a seat buckle extender that are primarly made for Commodores/Fords but will fit some late model cars including Toyotas. Failing that they can actually remove the existing buckle and fit a new buckle & webbing that is slightly longer than the existing one in the car!! No trying to squeeze your hand down between the seats trying to reach the buckle!! I live on the Gold Coast and the company I spoke to if anyone is interested is Safe-T-Ride in Southport.

I have a seatbelt extender but only use it when my DD1s booster seat is reclined as the belt is too short. It states on the warning label that it should only be used when the actual seatbelt is to short not when you cant reach to do it up.

i have a vy commodore s 2003 model, we have two maxi riders in the back and dd sits there quiet comfy to and shes got a bit of room there, can also fit 3 car seats as i have had a freinds car seat in there too.
I found in our old vx the seat wasnt at side, for some reason the vy seams wider.
I know i am comfy in the back too with two seats if i have to sit there :)
