View Full Version : Seperation Anxiety
Eliza will be 6 months in 2 weeks and has suddenly got this major seperation thing going on coopsntilly will back me up on this lol:o She has always been fine with anyone, but the last week, I leave to go to the toilet or shower or heaven forbid the local supermarket for 15 minutes, and she has a meltdown even with DP
I got home today and DP said she just lost it, as soon as she was in my arms it was like an off switch, she just stops and hugs me and plants a wet kiss :D
Questions
How long does this last?
Is there anything I can do to reassure her?
I talk to her and hold her and tell her it's OK but should I hold her more firmly to make her know she's safe, then hand her over?
off to visit family soon and don't want to much drama lol
TIA :)

Jye was the exact same when he was crawling (9 months).. he would be at my feet all the time and when i would go to the toilet he would be beside himself crying and carrying on.
Eventually he just got over it so hopefully Eliza does the same. I don't think there's anything physically you can to make her stop. It's just something she'll get over.
:hugs:

It usually starts up at around 8-9 months but considering how clever your Eliza is, she is just getting in early! :D
My DS#1 had terrible seperation anxiety from about 4 months. I couldn't give him to anyone! In fact he is still a bit like this  . No, he has gotten a lot better over the last year-I can actually drop him off at a b'day party now and leave him there.
From memory, it ususally starts to subside at around 15 months-they have a better understanding by then that you will be back shortly. Plus they are old enough to distract with other things by then.
Awww...she looooooves her mummy.......:)

Dare i say i still struggle with this :o
Boof wont let anyone else soothe him & the last week has been absolutely horrendous in that he hasnt even wanted to be put to bed. He screams & cries like im killing him & it breaks my heart so bad :crying:
He has been sleeping on & on with us through the nite the last few nites but it doesnt really help cause he thinks its play time & he will still take awhile to fall asleep if he does at all then he wakes up screaming & is grabbing at me like im going somewhere or away :(
Its probably nite terrors we are experiencing now but the problem is it now means he wont leave me alone of a day he is always by my side which is somewhat normal but somewhat strange as he often plays with his toys etc all alone but now he wont.
Ok ive just realised that was a rant on my part sorry :o
It does get better & there will be weeks where they are happy as larry i guess all we can do is offer lots of cuddles & kisses.
As Sal said they just love their mums !

MJ goes through stages like this still (sorry, know you didnt want to hear that). If i try to go to the toilet, shower, cook dinner....anything MJ will scream, yell have tears running down her face etc till i come back. As soon as she is in my arms, she starts :ecomcity: & laughing
Sorry, not much help I know.

  Sorry, Pixie! Ahem...back to the thread.:D
I cant get out of the room usually also - it gets really hard sometimes cause as soon as I leave the room she starts crying and crying 'ma ma' - I cant even usually leave her in a room with anyone else apart from my BF and even with him shell do the same occaisionly. If she's engrossed in playing or watching the Wiggles then I can usually manage to get out of the room for a few mins. The last few days she wont even let me put her down for her morning sleep (its only the morning one at pres thanksfully :fingerscrossed: ) once she's fallen asleep in my arms cause she wants to be held by me....
Well whilst Im sad that poor E has some seperation issues, Im rather glad to hear its not just me!! :p
I hate to tell you this, but from here on, it usually only gets worse. Cooper is almost 3 1/2 and Tilly is nearly 2 and they both still do it, really badly, I cant even go to the toilet and shut the door without them both sitting outside it screaming their heads off  and if I try to leave the house without them, heaven help the whole street, the screaming is enough to wake the dead!! Tilly starts as soon as she see what appears to be me getting ready to go somewhere, she follows me around crying 'up?' or 'come?' Its very annoying to say the very least.
Sorry for that less than helpful response, maybe Eliza wont be like that, but, she probably will be ;) If its any consolation, mine are often more than happy to go somewhere with Daddy or Nanna, its just getting left behind by mum that is usually the biggest problem

Well i have found as long as i leave his bedroom door open & go into our bedroom for a bit usually put all our clothes away during that period now he will take himself off to sleep as normal. Before this i would close his door over partly to stop him being woken by noises downstairs so yeah if this what he wants its fine !
Yes i have to agree with E its pretty much something we worked out the other day if i leave him im the worst & he is losing a limb but if he goes off with Daddy or his Aunty then its fine !
Oh the joys !!!! Im seriously being thrown as soon as i get comfy with a way of doing things he comes along & changes his mind !
Its hard but you will find out how to handle it as best you can good luck :hugs:
And yes Larry is around somewhere :p
I told you already I want Andrew not Larry :D :p
Well at the MIL's today we walked in the door, she spoke to Eliza wellll big mistake lots of tears and crying, everytime I went to hand her over huge crying and longing looks back to me :D ahhh that's my girl
So in reality I am looking at this iss-ewe until at least her first day of school where upon I shall start to suffer from it!!
