Hey Kristy - Oliver was born at the Royal. You know the whole yucky story, but I could NOT FAULT the doctors, midwives, or care I received there! They were lovely. Would really recommend trying to get into the Birth Center if you can.

We had our own private room because we were thru the BC. :)

I gave birth to my son Kaleb at the Royal also -- bit of a funny story actually! Kaleb was born 4 weeks premature (I went into spontaneous labour) and the ONLY reason I was at the hospy that day was to drop my father off to the ER for possible appendicitis

I didn't get a private room - maybe because I was a c-section patient, maybe because there were so many babies being born in February  Who knows? The staff were great though, giving me rides in the wheelchair down to the NICU to see my baby every 4hrs! I was there for 5 days and I remember Krista as being a wonderfully attentive nurse

I also had some experience with Calvary hospital (Kaleb was transferred there until he came home on Day 11) and the staff there were also wonderful. The food wasn't bad either! You get private rooms there but of course, being a private hospital, you do pay for it!

Goodluck with your choice!

We had Krista for our Postnatal Classes and also on the last day of my stay in hospital! :) She was lovely! I had 3 attending midwives up until Oliver was born and they were all lovely. Fiona was the one who helped to birth Oliver.

You wouldnt have had a private room because you had a C-Section. I was in the BC, but while I was in theater (being prepped for a C Section) the ward sister moved all our stuff to a ward, because if you have a C you need to be monitored more carefully and they need to help you do everything. But lucky for me I didnt end up getting a C and was able to get a room. Just as well cause I needed to stay 5 days and I would have checked myself out after 24 hours in a ward. I so needed Steven to be able to stay with me!

Kristy - Do you have private cover? Ive heard really good things about Hobart Private too. 2 of my friends had their babies there!

I had Cody at the Royal aswell they were fantastic couldnt fault them!!

However because there were so many babies being born in February as soon as cody was born we were transfered to the hobart private!! It was fantastic in there own room friendly staff very helpful. Even better cause we didnt have to pay for it.

So i dont know what the after birth care is like a t the royal but the birth and pre birth care was fantastic. Same at the private the after birth care was awesome!!! :smiliedance:

No I don't have private, I did visit the hobart private and was given a quote of about 3-4 grand for a 3 night stay which would be the most for me, but if I end up having a csection it gets up to 10 grand, something I can not afford! I could afford the 3-4 as I can save what I am earning from work now..
Can you go through the BC if you have had a previous csection?

I had Senna at the royal, and because I had a c section was not given a private room, but there was no one else in my room, so it was still "private". The service and care was wonderful, no complaints here at all...I was in for 5 days, and then the midwife came to my home for 3 days after that which was also wonderful.. goodluck with your choice, but I think all the hospitals are good:yes:

I had Edison at the Hobart Private Hospital, it was great, a bit like staying at a hotel. We had a big room with a double bed, huge on-suite, window with a view and everyone was so friendly. My DH stayed with me and was fed everynight, we were both a bit sad when it was time to leave.

All the midwives were great, they were there within seconds if you needed anything otherwise they pretty much left us alone to settle in as a family, which was good practise for when we went home.

I took a tour of Calvary aswell but HPH was more convenient as my Dh works in the city.

Yes I liked the look of HPH too, but not so sure what to do really cos if I end up with another csection it will be too costly for us.

We have had our three children at the RHH. And are doing so for the twins. We have always been more than happy with the doctors, midwives and all the staff. With the three children we used KYM, but this time around with the twins we have to see the doctors.

My DH stayed with me the hole time, which was great (double bed). Not just for me but for the babies too. With all the children we have stayed about a week. We have always had a private room. And the last baby we had was by c-setion.

By the way if your baby is very sick it will be transferred to the RHH anyway. So I think it's best to be at the RHH.

 Fiona French (midwife) is an old school friend of mine, she is a lovley person and a great midwife too! She has helped me give birth to all my babies. And was my midwife for the c-setion too.
