Ladies advice please,
Our 1year old sleeps from 6pm -9pm,9.15pm-2 ish, 2.15am - 5am,
so he's getting a good 11 hours variably, but during the day he just won'tsleep past his first 40-5 mins ,b e it in the car/pram/cot.
We practiced CC for a couple of months from which we all got sleep during the ight as we did't boob him to sleep ,now only boob on waking and during the night.
But days are still the same.
OUr sleep'nurse'(??) has told us to makehim cry it out from when he wakes til he falls asleep again, then when that didn't work after a week, I tried going in to himand patting/rocking him over to 2ndcycle, didn't work. Then when i told her this, she said to cry out again !! which now wejust won't do besides he gets too distressed too quickly and it a more clever than hewas when we started. And i simply can't listen to him crying that way anymore!!
So anything else tried amd tested to allow him to sleepmore ???
He isn't sleeping in the morning every day,
Hubby thinks to wean off boob - but really don't want to go down that route yet.
He has hiscloth book and musical seahorse - he activites himself in the cot, but he's never really attachedhimself to a particular toy/comforter so have just given him the opportunity to choose something he's been playing alot recently - a teddy - andgiven it to him just now.
I put him down awake -
He always self occupies for 15mins or so before getting self to sleep- just need/want him to sleep more at a time - especially if he'sdropping a day sleep.
Or as i've come to understand - maybe this is just him and the way its to be. But by 3-4pm he's very clingy, falls over lots, pushes everything away, won't spendmore than a couple of mins self-occupied. so he can't be ready !!!

any suggestion please...
it's a beautiful day today, sun and showers = lots of rainbows !!!

Be grateful he sleeps so well overnight I say! Lots of babies don't sleep more than 45 minutes. I suggest you ignore the nurse who told you to let him cry it out. Hopefully he will eventually sleep longer during the day

I too believe a 45 min is not enough for a 1 year old. Can you try moving his sleep time a little? Maybe he is waking after the first sleep cycle because: (1) he's hungry and needs lunch early before his nap; (2) he wees a lot from a feed before the nap that awakens him; (3) or opposite he is thirsty; (2) bowel motion coming on. I know with both my kids I had to figure out the best sequence of lunch/poo/drink to maximize a big daytime sleep.

Brillliant thank you!!,Today i've begun to offer him more food before 1st sleeparound 8.30- 9am as he has breakfast 6ish.
He tendsto have a poo after his breakfast in themorning and sometimes another mid-arvo.
And although we offer and i leave hiswater/tea cup out for him to take at his own pace - he generally onlyhas 1 or 2 bigdrinks during the day. but does'tseem to show any effects.
Oh and I check nappybefore he goes down
Thanks for your input, see how he goes the next couple of days

I received the advice to go in to DS around the 40 minute mark and gently pat/stroke him through to the next sleep cycle. We tried it months ago and it never seemed to work. But now he is almost 11 months old and it seems to work. I go in to him at around 35 mins before he starts to stir and gently pat his back for 10 - 15 mins, sometimes as long as 20 mins. It only seems to work if I can get to him before he starts to wake otherwise it's all over! Good luck.

Maybe 8.30-9 is a bit early for a nap at 1 year and he is not tired enough to sleep past the 40min?

HI Dixiechix

My 11mth old DD is a catnapper also, and I have tried to pat her through to the next cycle also, but with little success. Haven't and won't try and cc. Only every now and again with she sleep through. Whilst there is no real pattern to it, it does seem to be on the naps where I have kept her awake alittle longer. If I put her down too early, so will almost always wake after 40 mins (she is like clock-work). If she is up for about 3.5hrs, so can sometimes sleep through. She needs more sleep, and the only way she seems to get it, is if I get into bed with her and nap with her. I know not everyone is in a position to do this, but I am able to, and both her and I get more sleep, so it is working for us at the moment.

Good luck!
