View Full Version : Wanting to connect with older mums or mums to be in the Gong!
Hi everyone!
My name is Katelyn, and I have only just recently moved from Melbourne to Unanderra. I am 37 years old and am expecting my first child in January 2012 (is our second attempt).
I am really keen to connect with other mums and mums to be who live in the Gong or surrounding areas as I am excited about meeting new people and making friends - other than my immediate in laws, I don't know a soul.
I am looking forward to hearing from anyone who is keen to chat and share advice.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Katelyn
Hi Katelyn my name is Kim. I am 24 and live in Cordeaux Heights and have a 7 month old son.

Hi Kaz
Thankyou for your reply!
So far am enjoying the Gong - am loving the warmer weather - I cannot believe it is winter here and the sun is always shining. Am quite happy to leave the Melbourne cold behind thats for sure...
Hope all is going well with your pregnancy (our first attempt was through IVF, unfortunately suffered a miscarriage and then fell pregnant naturally by mistake?!).
I look forward to meeting some Illawarra mums....thanks again for your post.

Hello Katelyn,
I'm an older mom (yes, I'm from the US) living in Mt. Pleasant. I have a 4 1/2 girl and 2 month old boy, as well as a much older daughter and am still interested in other ways of meeting mums in the area.
I'm so happy to hear that you have a sticky little one! Congrats!
Jennifer
Thanks for replying to my post! Lovely to hear from you! As you know I am still very new to the area, and love making new friends, so stay in touch! I do yoga and pilates and have found thats a great way to meet people as well. I am thinking that if I get enough people together/interested, I would be happy to organise an informal catch up with a small group - what do you think?
I'm not too familiar with Mount Pleasant - how far is it from the Gong? How long have you been in the area for?
Look forward to hearing from you!
Katelyn
Katelyn,
With no traffic, I'm 5 minutes out. If I get stuck at the Mt. Ousley roundabout, it might take 10! :) I've been here for almost 6 years now. As I've only worked from home and have spent a lot of time with my kids, it's been difficult to meet a lot of people.
I'd love to meet up if people are around and up for it. Any neighborhood playground would be perfect for us, as my 4 1/2 year old daughter would probably need something to do whilst we all chat.
Thanks for responding!
Jennifer
Hey there
You live in a lovely part of the world! I must say I love the warrmer climate here in the Illawarra, and love being closer to the water as well....
Stay in touch as I am always keen to meet new people, especially as I know very few people here! It was hard moving here from Melbourne as I lived there for 10 years and left behind some really close friendships, and now that I am having a baby, I feel that gap even more.
Let me know if you are keen to catch up, as there is someone else I have had contact me on Bub Hub with a 2 year old, who would love to meet new people as well....what do you think?
Look forward to chatting soon....Katelyn

Hi girls, just a reminder that the rules clearly state that members are not to link to or promote Facebook groups, even those that are parenting related. Please feel free to set up a social group here on the Hub.
Cheers :)

Hi ladies, looks like it has been a while since anyone posted on here. I'm almost 36 and expecting my 2nd (and maybe 3rd if it's twins) on 29th August 2012. I have lived in Wollongong for 7 years now. What Ob are you all going with or are you going public hospital? Does anyone know of any great pediatricians in Wollongong area? My other kids are DD 15, DSD 14, DSD 10 and DSS 8. I live in west Wollongong ;)

Hi I'm kim and my DS is 1 year old, we are currently TTC our second. I went through Dr Davis, but I went through Figtree private hospital. I had Dr Goodhew as our peadiatrician and he is on Sperry street near wollongong hospital, although I just go to our GP when DS is sick.
Good luck through your pregnancy :)

Thanks Kim for that info. What was Dr Davis like? What did you think of Figtree Private? I'm with Dr Greening and he prefers Figtree unless there are obvious complications, then he'll make me go to Wollongong. I'm only just 7 weeks now and have my dating scan 16th Jan. So nervous, I just want to see a heartbeat (or two). I'm thinking im gonna have twins..there have been too many signs around me with "twins" in it. I have no MS, hardly any symptoms actually, just sore boobs and peeing a lot...
Dr Davis is great! He was great when we lost my sons heartbeat and I went into have an emergency c-section. I had no ms and hardly any symptoms with my son so you could be having a boy.

I had Dr Greening with my first. He was wonderful! I recommend him to everyone I know looking for an OB- which may be part of the reason he is so hard to get into lol

Hi Missy Mack - yeah he is hard to get into see. I called as soon as i found out I was pregnant (did IVF through dr greening) and told them i was due august, and they only had one place left!!! I grabbed it right away! Did you go to Wollongong or Figtree to give birth? Did dr make it?
Kim- dr Davis was my second option if greening was booked out. My hubby keeps calling bubs a boy too! Lol I just remind him it could be a girl OR that we could be having one of each!! I'm not gonna find out, will wait till bubs makes an entrance.

I had my first at Wollongong as the chances of a natural birth at Wollongong are considerably higher than at Figtree (even with the same OB!) Unfortunately I had a emergency CS due to complications and was lucky that Dr Greening was in Wollongong at that exact time to perform it. Last time I used a private midwife as I had a much healthier pregnancy (I had PE with my first). Totally different experiences with totally different needs. I have always said that I wish I could birth at Wollongong and recover at Figtree  The only thing I dislike about Greening is that he has Walton as his cover for holidays. Walton is a little too interventional and CS happy for my liking
Well I POAS and by my dates I am due in September (18th) and will be going under Dr Davis again.

So upset right now. Hopefully all is ok, I will find out on the 16th when I have my viability scan. The wait is killing me.

Hi Katelyn
I'm an older Mum with a beautiful 16mth girl, and not originally from Wollongong (Melbourne actually). I'd be interested in meeting others in the same situation. Do you guys meet up regularly; do you think we could come along one day?
Thanks so much for starting up this group!

Hi
I'm not sure how active this thread is anymore, but I'm going to go out on a limb anyway!
I thought I'd take my 17mth DD to Green Bean Play Cafe on Monday 5 March 2012 at 9am.
If there are any other older Mums out there in the Illawarra please feel free to come along!
Here's some info on the play centre: http://www.greenbeanplaycafe.com.au/
Hope to see you there :)

Hi everyone, I am an 41yr old new mum with a 3 month old baby boy. I am from Dapto and I am looking to meet new older mums in the Illawarra. I have been to mothers meetings but, they are all young mums and I felt very out of Place, so I look forward to being able to chat and meet new mums.
