Hello

My baby will be 7 weeks old this Sunday and the last 3 nights has basically started sleeping through the night

I fed her at 8.00 last night....tried waking her at 11.15 for a feed but she would not wake up and it is 6.20am and she is still asleep....

I am worried that this will affect my milk supply. She feeds during the day 3-4hourly.

Is this normal...should I go and wake her up????

Any advise would be great

Dear Tashmusa,

This can be a bit of a conundrum for mothers! It can be such a relief when bubs sleep through the night, but it also means that they are missing out on a feed!

If your bub is not waking for a feed during the night, this means that she isn’t hungry during the night. It is possible that she is becoming more efficient at feeding and therefore drinking more at each feed during the day.

Let your baby guide you with her hunger. If she seems to want an extra feed during the day (and feed 3hrly rather than 4hrly) give this to her. If she continues to be content with her current day routine and still doesn’t wake at night, then that is fine too – consider yourself lucky!

Just continue to monitor your baby to see that she has frequent wet nappies, gains weight, and seems happy, healthy and alert. If you have concerns about any of these aspects of your baby’s wellbeing, then it is best to discuss this with a doctor or child health nurse.
