I don't use sorbolene that much on my kid's skin - they tend to need something a bit more greasy, like Dermeze. However, I've heard from a few different people recently that you shouldn't use sorbolene as it contains petroleum? (or something similar??) Has anyone else heard this? I'm a little confused as the dermatologists I've seen in the past have always recommended sorbolene if the kid's skin isn't too bad... surely a dermatologist would know if sorbolene was bad for moisturising?
Anyone heard anything about this?

I have never used it but from my knowledge when researching chemicals in foods and baby products most sorbolene creams are made from toxic chemicals like parabins, tetra acid and alcohol which will irritate the skin, I know my naturopath is against any skin products with these kind of ingredients as she said any harsh chemicals you put on your skin can be absorbed into your
Blood stream , really don't know why a dermatologist would prescribe them?
Our DD's Dermo told us not to use it because of the chemicals in it so we stick with Dermeze and very rarely her steroid cream. The steroids only come out when she's scratching and uncomfortable.
My GP told me to use pure sorbelene on DS dry skin (face+body) & said doesn't matter how often I apply it. I've found it works really well but after reading this thread I'm going to switch to Dermeze....do you just get it from chemist & does it matter how often you apply it (couple times daily ?)

Yes, it's from chemists. Be warned - it's quite thick, consistency almost like Vaseline. So don't use too much, it has left oil marks on my kid's clothes if they put it on themselves (they can be a bit heavy handed ). How often depends on how dry the skin is - sometimes I'll just do it once a day (after bathtime), other times two or even three (if they're going through a bad patch with their skin).
