Hi,
Hope this isnt offensive?!
I dont shave my bikini line as I get really bad ingrown hairs (really awful inflammed infected pimples when the hair grows back:eek: ). Am worried after area is shaved for c/s that I'll have bad ingrown hairs in the scar area to contend with as well as the scar healing etc. Would it be worthwhile going in and getting the area waxed before the c/s so they dont have to shave it? Would they shave over the waxed area anyway? And if I did get it waxed how far down do I wax?
:o

How about using a hair removing cream? That's what I did and had no dramas at all. They didn't need to do any extra clipping or shaving at the hospital and the hair grows back slowly enough that you don't have to worry about hair sticking to you dressings etc.

hi, after going into surgery and being prepped a man pops his head over the curtain, with a razor in hand and goes "ok im going to shave you now" :o How embarrasing.!! :D

My incision is only a little under the hairline so if you would be more comfortable maybe you should just get the top bit of hair on your pubic bone waxed if you dont want to get the whole thing. waxing is probably better cause after 1 - 2 days it was so itchy... i was concerned about hair growing into my scar too but it didnt.

:fingerscrossed: and goodluck for a speedy recovery

I had an emeg CS and i was shaved for it. If you're worried about it I'd go and get waxed. Ot do a test with hair removal cream cause lots of people react to it.
My scar sits just above my bikini line, so you shouldn't have to go too low.

Hi,

Before i had my c/s i got waxed just below my bikini line. On the day of c/s no one had to shave or clean up the area. I am glad i had it waxed!
Good luck with your c/s.

I got Dh to shave number one with the clippers. That was fine. I don't like the whole itchy thing when they grow back, so I didn't want to go too short. They don't go far down at all. It's more for hygiene than anything else. They wouldn't want your scar to become infected.

Mel's suggestion is a good one if you want to do it before you go in.

With both of my c/s's I had it shaved in hospital and they only clipped it. Apparently (at my hospy anyway) they won't actually shave anymore because it removes the very top layer of skin as well as the hair which increses the risk of infection around the wound.

Well i know, that i didn't have my shaved and i had a c-section
But then everyone is different, i didnt ask to have it done, and it was not mark on my forms that i had it done, or needed it done.

Hi susmamma, also Nads (the natural hair wax stuff ppl) make an ingrown hair solution....you just spray on area and it helps either keep them away or if they are already there, get rid of them. You can pick it up from the chemist.

Oh that's interesting Mrs Potts. Clipping would be fine in my case. Have been wondering how I'm going to get onto a beautician's bed with this belly (need a big belly icon!) and how the devil the waxing lady is going to find my pubic line (I cant even see my feet anymore!:D )

I had my waxing done the other day. I just lay on the bed as normal and she waxed away. I got her to wax fairly low to allow for the c/section incision. Or you could go for a brazillian which I didnt want because I dont want the doctor and midwives to think I was a porn star  Was heaps more sensitive than when not pregnant though.

When I had my c/s the middie just shaved the top of mine. I am susceptible to ingrown hairs around there also (and TBH, she was not the most gentle of shavers!!) but I had no problems. I had tape over my scar for the first few days and I think maybe when I took this off, it removed the problem of the ingrown hairs - I never had one!

I'm pretty sure I wasn't shaved at all and I had an emergency c-sect... my scar sits just in the very top of my bikini line...

I was 'clipped' for my CS by a midewife. She only did the top couple of cm's and I would have said it'd be the equivalent to a number1 with DH's clippers.

They shaved me for my emergency c/s but to me there was no need, as my scar is like at least 2cm above where my hair ends. Maybe I just have a high scar, it is definatly above my bikini line.

Which i never dreamed of having, i was 10cm dilated, & his head got stuck. Then an old man said he was going to shave me down then. I was so embarassed!!!!!!!!!!

hi susmamma,

Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this but it might be something else to consider. I had emergency c-section and was shaved for it (only a little bit - not all of it lol.) and to be quite honest I didn't find it embarassing or and issue at all because I was in so much pain. The problem I had came later - when it came time to take the bandage off. My hair had grown back in under the sticky (skin-like) bandage they use. They recommend taking it off in the shower to wet it and loosen it, but it was so painful removing it. I nearly fainted - got that sick to my stomach feeling and felt lightheaded, it was worse than the tenderness of the actual incision!!! In the end my hubby had to get in the shower with me and use small manicure scissors to cut the hair as I pulled to bandage off. It was terrible!!

I don't wax, but as far as I know the hair takes a lot longer to grow back so I would recommend getting that done. I think someone else mentioned hari removal cream - anything that takes the hair from the root would be preferable to using a razor or clippers. I am planning a vbac, but will wax just in case.:D

Ouch! I didn't have any problems removing the tape at all a few of days after the surgery, and my scar is in amongst it all  . What I did have to do for a few months after was clean up (pull out) the dead hair in the scar. Hair that just no longer grew (sorry TMI).

Hi,

I was shaved with a razor and they even shaved the lower section of my stomach much to my horror (I'm not hairy). About three weeks after the staples had been removed I had ingrown hairs in my scar and it was awful. At the time I was so worried. I had to go to my local doctor and he had to get them out. It was awful so next time I will go and get waxed.

Good luck.
