It's probably a stupid question, but I like to make sure of things before I rely on them...
I have been working at my current job since the end of last July (2010), and I am due in early October this year, in order to qualify for PPL, when is the earliest I can go on maternity leave from work?
Also, around what time should I submit paperwork for PPL?

My work wants a rough estimate of when I will be leaving and I'm not sure ATM. If baby is normal and I should reach 40 weeks, I'll stay till two weeks before I'm due, however I currently have a low placenta and the doc has warned me that the possibility of placenta previa will result in a c section around 38weeks, and possible earlier hospital admittances for bleeding.

I won't know about the placenta previa until a scan at 32 weeks, but I'm trying to get every scenario sorted out as I am 23 weeks now.

Thanks for your help :)

Some employers require 12 weeks notice before you commence maternity leave. Unsure what hte go is if your employer does not pay it. I believe with PPL you need to have worked 300ish hours in the 10month prior to bub being born.
At a guess you would be able to leave work beginning of September . It depends how much you work. Call family assitance or look on their website. It jsut depends how much time you want 'off' before bubs arrives. BEst laid plans can go awry though. It also depends on your job and if you can physically manage it.

Good luck

Agreed :) U can enter ur info online at centrelink and then when bubs is born u will get the paperwork at the hospital and hand it in ASAP!

Also I was told I might have placenta privia also but got the all clear at my 32wk scan, so try not to worry too much about that :)

Hi dicey

I am 23 weeks on Wed have also been told that I have grade 3 placenta previa so like you trying to plan for the unexpected which is so hard when you have no idea if/when you will be in hospital or if bubs will come early
One thing I do know with the paid parental leave...is that if you can not fit the criteria for the required hours of work before bubs arrives due to medical reasons (ie on bedrest in hospital ) that is ok and you will still be eligible.
