View Full Version : Day 1 of quitting
Hi everyone,
I havent been on here for a very long time. When i was an active member of this group i was not a smoker. I unfortunately took it back up when i stopped breastfeeding. I am now committed to quitting again, and this time for good.
I would love to share this journey and seek advice. Im only on day 1, and i feel the use of this forum would be a good way to keep me on track through self monitoring via this forum. (also support would be awesome!)
Anyway, wish me luck. Today is hopefully the beginning of a new smoke free life.

All the best! BTW I have your sig as a bumper sticker ;) Love it!
Thanks ladies! Ok Day 2 here we go!
Goodluck :)
I quit 4 months ago, just before falling pregnant. I had been smoking ten years on and off, it's hard. I still think about smoking every single day. I even dream that i'm smoking when I'm asleep lol but each day you go without is a confidence booster.
Day 3, half way through the Allan Carr book and feeling ok!

Good luck! The book didn't help me but I didn't want to quit at the time. I've quit twice and both times I was really sick with the flu and couldn't smoke. I just didn't pick it up again when I was well. This time it's been nearly 5 years for me so I'm pretty sure I'm never going back!!!
I hope it works for you :D

Ok, am on day 5 and doing ok! I have nearly finished the Allan Carr book, and have to say i am very excited about not smoking anymore!
I have been tested already. My friends came over last night and normally we would eat dinner and after my boy went to bed drink wine and smoke and chat on my cold verandah, but instead we ate dinner, chatted and my friend who is also quitting and i drank cups of tea in the warmth of the house. My other friend popped out a couple of times for cig, but i just felt sorry for her having to go out in the rain and cold. It was really nice to not have to go outside, and not to be waiting desperately for ds to go to bed so i could have a smoke (he doesnt know i smoked as i only did it when he was alseep or i was at uni etc, however he isn't stupid, and i doubt i would be able to hide the smell of it on me for much longer).
Have ordered a nice organic vege box with an organic loaf of sourdough to celebrate!
To all the other ladies quitting, good luck! It really is quite cathartic to be able to share the journey on here, and whilst its possibly very boring for some, its more of a way to mark each days achievement. :smiliedance::smiliedance:
Day 6 and i can smell the faint hint of stale tobacco on my dressing gown and its making me feel ill! Yay smell must be improving aleady! Think it might be time to wash the dressing gown!

You are doing so well! Keep it up!!
Hi Acacia,
how are you doing now? must be 5 weeks already??
Can I just ask - did you use anything to help you quit? Or just give it all up at once?
Reading through this thread you seemed to do it all pretty easily!!
I have just started Zyban and am supposed to take it for a week or so before actually quitting. I had my quit date set as 25th July, but I feel like I can do it before then!!
Any tips for when you were struggling??
Thanks!!
Hi Nando, sorry havent been on here for ages. Yes i am still quit and its going well. Have had a few slips ups on nights out, but given they are very rare i have been ok with that. The next day i havent been wanting to take it back up again which is good. I didnt use anything medical, but did read Allan Carrs Easy way to quit smoking. i read it in bed before i went to sleep which i think really helped. I have not heard great things about Zyban, so be careful. If your mood changes dramatically then stop taking it.
My advice for struggling would be if you crave one, then stop and have a cup of tea or something. I drank A LOT of tea when i first quit. I also would say if you slip up, like i have when drinking then don't worry too much about it, just make sure you dont buy a packet. I really think not buying a packet is very important, bacause thats how i have failed in the past.
Also if your ttc, then remeber that after you have stopped smoking for 9 months, the risk to the baby and problems with concieving is the same as a non smoker! My friend quit when she was getting ready to ttc and that helped her a lot.
Best of luck, your quit date has passed, so let me know how your going.:cheerleader2:
Hi Acacia,
Thanks for your response! Yes, I have quit! and I feel really comfortable with it already!
Last smoke was 18th July, so one month now.
I found the zyban was very effective for me, but I did cut it down to only one a day (two was making me lack motivation for anything).
I stopped taking the zyban early so I could start clomid and TTC.
So i have been a non smoker without drugs for about 2 weeks now.
Thanks for your tips though regarding nights out etc. I'm lucky not many of my friends smoke anymore, but I'll certainly keep them in mind.
I have also heard good things about the easy way, but hopefully i'll never need to find out for myself!!
Congratulations on staying quit!!!!
