My 2 year old daughter has suddenly started waking through the night. She has always been a very good sleeper and currently has a 1.5-2 hour sleep during the day. She is in bed by around 7.15 most nights but has started waking at night. She calls out for Mummy and Daddy and we always find her standing up in her cot. She isn't crying particularly just whining and will go straight back to sleep when you lay her back down.
Last night she did this 5 times and we really don't know why she is doing this. She has a dummy but I know she hasn't lost it when she has woken up as we find her standing up with it in her mouth.
We have bought her first 'big girls' bed and were thinking of putting her in there - maybe she doesn't like being in her cot anymore.....

Anybody else going through the same thing? Any suggestions?

I believe it's developmental - they start to dream more vividly at this age and their sleep patterns change. I try not to engage too much - as with mine she's not really awake. I also find keeping her day naps down to one hour helps a bit, but may mean a narky toddler at dinner time.

My DS is almost 2 ( in August) and has been waking up almost 1-2hrs. And wont sleep now unless we are in the room with him, and has been wanting to sleep with us too. Is this also a result of dreaming?

Could she be cold? I think that's the reason my 2 yr old is waking sometimes.

What about a plug in night light. Being able to see just a little during the night helps my DD re settle herself.

That or cold like kotakai suggested.

I am curious to see if anything works for you, DD will be 2 in September and wakes up to 5 times during the night. Same thing, she has her dummy but is sitting up or standing crying, then settles as soon as you put her back on her back....

Thank God I'm not the only one going thru this! I've just reposted under my original post and am so glad I found this one...

I've tried the nightlight, I've tried to ignore his cries, I've tried milk, I've tried putting him in my bed, I don't know what else to try...

It's 11pm, and I'm usually still up, and he's already woken up and cried out 3 times! I'm guessing it'll happen another 3-4 times or more later tonight...

I wish I had the answer!

Double check she is warm enough as suggested. When she wakes up feel the small of her back and her hands. If they are cold then so is she. I found that out with DS. As soon as we started layering him up and he started sleeping.
