7 months so far, will most likely let DS self wean, see how it goes - aiming for minimum 12 months :)

13 1/2 months with DD1 - stopped because I was pregnant with DD2, working and tired - it was a mutual decision in the end!

11 1/2 months and still going with DD2 and no plans to stop in the immediate future.

My DD is 6 months old and we're still going strong... I have to go back to work for 2 days a week, but hopefully she'll be on 3 b/f's a day and I'll only have to supplement 1 feed a day with formula. Before I had my DD I thought I would b/f until she was 6 months old - but now we're there I can see it stretching on... I would like DD to self-wean - I have no intention of stopping in a hurry...

Cheers!

I breastfed for 4 months....it doesn't sound long but I am so proud of hanging in for that amount of time.

I nearly gave up at 3 weeks but perservered with the help of my fabulous lactation consultant as well as that fabulous feeling of guilt that is instilled into us...ie must breastfeed!!

We struggled the whole time....in the end I think it was more bubba who decided no more than me.....he just wouldn't take the boob anymore....strange....

Cheers

Yesterday was our last breastfeed. :) Ds is 8 months. It was lovely, but I let him make the decision and he prefers a bottle now so that's fine.

I can't believe it was so hard to get him to take a bottle for so long, now that's his first choice. I feel a lot less restricted now though.

I breastfed DS up until he was 15mths old. He just weaned himself :(

When bub No 2 arrives I hope to do it just as long.

Still breastfeeding 6 month old twins. I have gone back to work part time (9-3, 5 days a week) so they get one bottle feed a day and the rest is breast.

I started weening DS off bf at about 8 months but didnt give it up completely until about 10 or 11 months. I too am very proud that I bf at all as I hated it and had a terrible time for the first 4 months or so....the only things that got me thru were the bf associations counselors(sp) and of course MOTHERS GUILT!!!!. Hoping next time round I will immediatley love it LOL :D

For DS1 I had to wean him at 8mths as the morning sickness and the BF was draining me too much - did not plan to fall pregnant so soon (took 5yrs to fall with DS1). I was so upset about having to give it up, so it took me a month.........
With DS2 I weaned at 9mths because I had two wedding's to attend (not close to home) and he bluntly refused to take the bottle from me or anyone else (I had tried for months leading up to these events). How I weaned him is whole new post!
If I had my time again, I would go to at least 12mths, but no regrets as they are both strong healthy boys.
Not nearly as good as most on this thread, but I am just being honest! :)

Still breastfeeding at 8 months. I'm aiming for 12 months and will probably start the weaning process leading up to his first birthday. I'll miss him snuggling up to me but I'm looking forward to the freedom and wearing proper bras.

i b'fed alice til she was 11 1/2 months. i wanted to keep going as i enjoyed it, esp once it was down to only 2 feeds per day, but she prefered a bottle by then.

i was quite sad for a few days after she stopped, especially as i really enjoyed the morning feed in bed with her and DH.

i still miss that (she is 13 months now) and i tried my best to encourgae her for a while to take a morning feed, but she didn't want a bar of it!! Ah well, at least i didn't have to struggle with the whole being undressed in the supermarket like my mum did when she was still feeding my brother at 24 months. :p

one thing i noticed though quite soon after we stopped was that i had much more energy than before (even though i was only giving her 2 x 10 min feeds per day).

did anyone else notice this???

DD is 9 months old and we're still going strong. I plan to let her self-wean. I just wish the general community was more supportive of BF over the age of 6 months!

Hello there,

I stopped BF when Thomas was 3 months old, like Benandrewsmum, for some reason Thomas just wouldn’t take anymore milk from me. I’ve been using S26 ever since (step 2 now) and never looked back. Just as well coz 2 month later I went back to work (2 days a week) so no dramas :))Thomas is thriving, healthy (the only time he went to docs for his immunizations!) and happy bub and I couldn’t ask for more :)
So if you planning to BF as long as you’d like to, go for it I say!

:D

Breastfeeding has been a mission for us - have done 2 months and plan to go 1 month more. He has a bottle of formula every now and then, is very happy and healthy - I say, do what you need to do, as whatever breastmilk they get is awesome for them. I would like to feed him longer but quality of life for me is important too - not worth it if he is going to have a super-stressed mummy!

DS weaned at 6 months, I had been supp with formula since he was 2 months, due to low milk supply. Same with DD but we lasted till 7 months. I was planning on 12 months, but it was out of my hands. Fingers crossed I can do it this time!

I finished breast feeding when my daughter was 11 months old. I was returning to full time study and could not juggle that and breastfeeding 3 times a day. I would of liked to of breast fed longer but I really need to finish my degrees. Hopefully with the next one (TTC#2) I will be able to breast feed longer.

My dd is nearly 19 months and still going strong. i am so proud of this considering that I nearly gave up when she was 3 weeks old but thanks to my wonderful lactation consultant wer are still going. I am also working part time, was supplementing with formula and now with goats milk. I too will let her self wean although I am thinking of weaning her at 2 years if we are still going.

I've gone 4 months so far but it's a rather trying experience at the moment. I really want to continue to at least 9 months but at this rate I don't know if I'll get there.

We've made it to 2.5months- but she is begining to teethe  (very early i know) and i am very hesitant to feed once she has teeth!!

But i will probably attempt to feed until 6 months- or daycare start date! Just for convieniance!
