Hi guys
My DD is exclusively breastfed and about 11 weeks old. She hasn't pooed for maybe a week and we're getting worried. Is this anything to worry about and should I maybe eat something to help out? She seems fairly happy... we're just waiting now for a mega poo!

Its quite normal for breastfed babies to go awhile in between poops.
I worried about the same thing when my bub was little.Dont stress:)

This is totally normal!

I was actually warned this would happen to me by the Breastfeeding Clinic and to look out to when it would actually happen! It will be a whopper!

When it happened to me my baby hadn't pooed for about 12 days and when she did it was explosive! :p
The longest one my CHN had seen was 19 days and they were worried because the baby didn't look comfortable.

If you want to encourage the stools to come out you could give your baby some cooled boiled water. It's not necessary but if you are worried then you could try that.

BTW - What cute dimples your baby has!!! :D

hey bess, this happened with me a lil while back with lil miss, she didnt go for 12 days, she was squirming alot, and lots of wind and was quite uncomfortable. but then on day 13 woooshhhhhhhhhhhhh literally everywhere, and for at least the next few 8 nappies. shes sort of got herself in a pattern now, where she doesnt poo for a few days then will etc. hth:hugs:

It's very common for exclusively breastfed babies to go 10-14 days between poos, and isnt anything to worry about.

Breastmilk is so digestable, that quite often there isnt anything left to make waste, so no poos.

Thanks guys, she finally pooped this afternoon, what a relief (probably for all of us lol!). I'm suprised that it's not unusual for them to go quite a while and what Roxy said about waste makes good sense.
Phew, what would I do without this site, I hate rushing out to the clinic and sometimes you just need a bit of reassurance!
