Well discussed the name Beatrice with hubby and he was a definite NO. Boooo Hooooo.... sad because I loved the name.

He is very keen on a old world name and I really thought this fit the bill. Oh Well back to the drawing board.

He quite liked Bessie - thoughts???

Middle names are still Lola Joyce.

My only concern is that I have a niece who we are close to who is named Jessica - we all call her Jess or Jessie - I wonder if this is too close to Bessie/Bes. Thoughts ????

At least we have decided on the boys name Hudson.

Thanks xxx

Hudson is gorgeous!!

Bessie...just sounds too much like a nickname. Like its unfinished. Dunno, that's just a pet hate of mine and if it doesn't bother you obviously it doesn't matter. Is there a full name that you can use and have Bessie as a nickname?

Oh and should add, I think Lola would be gorgeous as a first name!

I like Bessie - its an Elizabeth shortening, which is one of my dd's middle names. I have a short name, which does get abbreviated even further. I wouldn't be worried about the Jess/Bess stuff either! I have to say Beatrice rocks as a name though, pity your dh doesn't agree.

I think Bessie and Jessie are completely different sorts of names, so I don't think it would be a problem! If you're concerned, what about Betty?

Lol, Hudson seems a very different sort of name to Bessie :)

snap meatpopsicle, I was just about to come in and say what about Betty. DS's hairdresser is called Betty and I like it, very unique for a young person today (she is about 30-35)

Thanks for your thoughts ladies...

Appreciate your honesty.

I am not that keen on Betty - I think because it reminds me of the wife in Some Mothers Do Have 'Em! lol

I love Lola - but DH does not. Lucky to get it in as a middle name actually.

Love any other suggestions in the same vein...

I like Bessie. It's different but still sounds old world. It goes well with the other names you have chosen too.

other than that, sorry i have no ideas - i'm good at unique and almost unheard of names, rather than older ones - but good luck finding one you both agree on!!!

I'm not a fan of Bessie because for some reason I automatically thought of a huge overweight woman, sorry! (I think cos it rhymes with Tessie, Ten Tonne Tessie, Bessie)

Oh, what about Jean? Definitely of another era! Both my grandmas and my mums name, and I have it in the middle! Jeannie for when they are little, then Jean later one - and JLJ are cool initials too!

I always like Constance, shortened to Connie. DH wasnt keen as he thought it was old fashioned... Then on the other extreme I suggested Darhma then that was too modern

Oh Im not a fan of Bessie, but if you like go for it!

Hi there, how about just going for Bea rather than Beatrice? I think this is a very pretty name.
Good luck with the negotiations!!
