View Full Version : help with hair loss
Hi everyone,
My hairs are falling like nothing after Ria's birth. Everyday when i comb my hair a little bunch comes out. There is hair, hair everywhere in my house.[sorry if TMI] Please help me with any suggestions because now it is been too much for me. Today i was tying a rubberband and normally it took two knots and now it is four knots.
My hairs have started greying too. OMG, i think that i am gonna mad.:banghead: Please help. I can do anything to nourish them.
Thanks.

My first advice would be to not use a rubber band in your hair. The rubber will actually cut through the hair it is rubbing against and will cause you to lose hair.
Other than that pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding hormones can take a toll on your hair. I lost about a foot of hair length in my first pregnancy simply because split ends went nuts! I was at the hairdresser at least once a month trying to keep it trimmed above the splits.
Try to relax and not stress too much ( hard for a new mum). Stimulate your scalp a lot, brushing, rubbing and so on. Don't do your pony tails too tight, this will put pressure on the hair at the roots.
My hair recovered and I am sure that yours will too.
ps - you are probably stuck with the grey though, its heriditary, we get it from our kids. :devil6:

It is normal to loose about 100 hairs a day but you can also loose more when your body is stressed or under nourished. I lost stacks of hair when I was about 17 when I had glandular fever because my body was run down... I thought I was going to be bald! It all grew back when I got better.
I would prob think that just after having a baby your body is still recovering and you may be a little more tired/ run down than normal... Im sure it will rectify itself. Perhaps speak to your doctor?

Hi Priya,
Don't be overly worried about this .... I've gone through the same problem when DS was about 3 to 4 months old. It got so BAD that DH joked I was moulting like our Golden Retriever. It's just the hormones thing. Looking back, I didn't lose much hair when I was pregnant and it was really lush and thick. I guess after birth, it's just time to shed and grow new ones
New hair started to grow about two months ago and I've noticed the hair loss has drastically reduced too. So don't worry , it's just a phase.
hi,
Thanks girls for the reassurance.

its been almost four and a half years since I had my youngest- and I still lose copious amounts of hair when i wash it.. But im not bald yet lol (YET)
A nutrient/mosture replacing shampoo and conditioner works wonders..I use either De Lorenzo Moisture Balance, or Palmolive for dry hair.. and it has reduced my hair loss.
Dont use rubber bands as Sam's Mum said.. they cause your hair to break.
Use a nylon coated band - Priceline has various kinds

Relax, it is perfectly normal!! Basically your hair stops falling out while you are pregnant (the usual everyday strands). This is why pregnant women always seem to have luscious shiny, thick hair. Then after baby is born, it ALL comes out! You should have seen mine after my babies were born-I lost copious amounts and it was everywhere. It is purely hormanal and will only happen for 6-8 weeks then it will slow back to it's usual everyday loss.
