View Full Version : Dropping to 1 daytime nap
Hello everyone,
just curious as to when your little ones changed to a single daytime nap, and what time of the day it was?
My 10 month DD has decided that 1 sleep a day will do thankyou very much.. the problem is its from 10.30 to bout 12, and this just isn't long enough, and when i try to put her down at about 3.30 she just plays for about 1/2 hr then cries untill i get her up.
She's a fanatastic night sleeper, but because she is awake for so long (6 1/2hrs) she gets a bit unbearable about 5.
So if you have any sugestions at all they would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry no suggestions only to say my DS does the same thing.:(
He sleeps well through the night then is up about 7 and down again by 10, and sleeps till lunch time and thats it. and yes he's the same after about 3pm hes wingey and tired and clingy and its impossible to do anything!
It is usual for littles to drop a day sleep usually the pm one and then at about 18months or so they flip over and the nap is in the after noon where it stays till they are about 2 or 3.
Sorry I haven't found anything that helps, mine will sleep in the car sometimes but very rarely in his cot at home.
Take care
M.

tyler has been only having 1 sleep,, since she was about 5months,,, she normally only sleeps for about 20mins if im lucky an hour:rolleyes:
I've been wondering about this myself. DS is almost one and for the past few days has been playing in his cot for a long time before falling asleep in the afternoons. One day he didn't fall asleep at all.
I've asked around and most people tell me he is too young to drop to one sleep and that it is probably just a phase. Most have suggested he still have the "cot" time as if it was a nap - somehow the cot means less stimulation for them and they "rest" anyway. I've been doing this and DS has been fine later in the day until his usual bedtime at 7pm. I admit I have been toying with the idea of keeping him up in the morning til about 11 or so and seeing if he would just ahve one big sleep but I am a bit of a chicken with those sorts of things as I just hate it when DS is cranky and tired!

My Ds went to one sleep at 16mths.
my first at 11 months. my second at 12 months. My first was a horrible day sleeper and did not have proper day sleeps until 19 months. My second i actually pushed to one day sleep so that they would both be having rest time at the same time. My second is a fantastic day sleeper which is now not much use because my 3 1/2 year old doesnt.
i remember my first ( at 19 months ) would sleep 10 - 12 and then usually a 15min cat nap in the car later in the day.
good luck

 Hi ladies, My Dd has just gone to 1 nap a day now, she's 19 months old. She now naps roughly 12.30 to 2.30
Hey there
same here. DS sleeps 1-2 hours in the morning and then in the arvo its about 20 mins usually but sometimes he will surprise me and go for an hour - but not often. He will have a catnap in the car if we are out
I am thinking i may seize the opportunity with daylight savings about to start to transition to one nap - as he will be going down at night an hour earlier so it wont be such a long stretch in the afternoon.

hi mel2878 - my son started to go to 1 nap a day at about 17 months. at first he was really tired at 10am and if i put him down at that time, he'd sleep until lunchtime and then wouldn't sleep again until 6.30pm. so i moved his nap time from 10am to 12noon by slowly pushing back when i put him down. a couple of days at 10am, then 10.30 and so on. it helps if you are busy in the mornings - go out and do something. it might take a little while but eventually nap time will be at 12noon or later.
DS was about 10 or 11 months when he went to one sleep a day. he usually is up any time between 5.30 and 6.30 am then is back down at 8.45am. He can sleep anything form 1 hour to 3. he usually averages around 2 to 2.5.
He is usually quite grumpy in the arvo's but will fight to the end not to go to sleep. I figure what the heck as long as he sleeps at night I don't mind.
