View Full Version : Routines...
Hi guys
Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of their bub's routine at 6 months... I'm interested in the amount of feeds per day and when you fit them in with solids feeds... I'm in that yucky transitional phase - have just introduced a third solids feed (breakfast) and have moved the original morning tea solids feed to lunch time... DD is currently on 4 b/f's a day - but it just doesn't fit well with the breaky/lunch/dinner pattern!! I gave her breaky BEFORE the b/f this morning, and then she hardly had any booby... When is it time to drop to 3 b/f's? Aaarrgghh!! It's all so hard! Any tips, hints, sympathy would be appreciated!!
Cheers!
Hi :) We cross paths again...!
Andrew is 7 months this week OMG but his routine now is much the same as at 6 months. Roughly...
6am Wake & BF
Nap
9am Solids (Rice cereal mixed with pureed fruits)
10am BF
Nap
1pm Solids (Pureed Fruits)
2pm BF
Nap
6pm Solids (Pureed Vegies)
Bath
6.45 BF
7pm Bed
I have noticed that he's not as hungry at the 2pm feed though...so I think eventually (hopefully) the 10am feed will creep later towards lunch time and the 2pm feed will creep later towards dinner time and eventually it will be a 3 BF a day sort of thing.
I found that Andrew didn't really care for solids right after a BF and after a lot of experimenting, found that about an hour/hour and a half before a BF was the time he was most excited about it. We take a leisurely go at the solids, usually in front of the tv, he loves to watch the tv while he is munching away and then turn back to me for another spoonful! Then we have a clean up, nappy change, some gentle playing until time for the BF.
WIth the whole brekky lunch dinner pattern, I'm not worrying about where the milk fits with that, cos its solids that are the meals eventually when they stop needing milk. So I make it that he has solids at regular grown up meal times and the milk is an inbetween thing.
Oh, and I also find that BF AFTER solids instead of before means that he can quench his thirst with breastmilk instead of water. He just wont' drink water, but I know he is thirsty after having solids.
Good luck with working out your new routine, I remember it was a bit hellish around the 6 month mark when it all went haywire!!! Good news is that is does settle down after a few weeks!
Thanks Nicole!
I was curious to see what others did... Your routine is pretty similar to ours, although Eleni gets up a little later. She's really not taking as much booby now she's on 3 solids meals - but I suppose that is the whole point! I still find it a little sad though... I'm debating whether to drop her back to 3 b/f's, which will be much easier for all of us when I go back to work... We'll see how it goes with the 4 feeds for a while I guess...
Cheers!
Miranda, mine does bottle at 7am followed by breaky.
Then morning tea after he wakes.......Usually bread with vegemite scaping....
Lunch at 12:00+ bottle (vegies and meat). Arvo sleep then afternoon tea..tonight was fruit salad (teeny pieces) with yoghurt........then bed bottle at 7pm.
So that 4 feeds a day, Breaky and Lunch, 2 snacks...eat, eat eat......and whatever I'm eating too.......
Regards,
O's mom.
Hi Kevinbudgie
Where does your 4th bottle feed fit in? One at 7am, then 12, then 7pm... Sorry - I must be a bit thick!!
What kind of bread do you use - do you use butter - do you cut the crusts off - does O have any teeth yet?
Thanks!!
P.S. I've gotta know - what does your sign on name mean?? It took me ages to stop thinking of you as a guy!! :D

No my fault: Got a corker of a headache...went baby's R Us shopping with too many moms and screaming french kids....
Sorry bottle at 4pm.
I buy bread here in packets of 14 slices crusts cut off..(too much for my boy as far as choking is concerned). No to butter. Just a thin scrape of vegemite...you can use avocado too but I can never find a ripe one.....!
O has two bottom teeth but it doesn't matter..I encourage him to chew by doing it too in front of him though he does prefer ramming the bread down as fast and as much of it as he can. i cut them into thin fingers and plop them down on the table in front of him. You cant take your eyes off them....a few times I've had to flip him and smack him on the back...but I guess its all part of it....its important he learns to chew and experiences textures.
pm you my sign on.
O's mom.
Sorry, one more thing..I forgot to mention he also has a feed between 2-4 in the night. (4am that is..)
OK. Thats it for real this time.
