Hi

I wasnt sure where to post this so im starting here.

It seems like DF and i will have to go down the IVF road.

I have my first ever appointment with a fertility Specialist at Kogarah Private Hospital (Professor Chapman - any body seen him before?)in october (right after my birthday:( )

I was told by my gp that fertility specialists will not start you on fertility treatment unless you are under a BMI of 30. My question is has anybody else been told this?

It would mean loosing a considerable amount of weight which is proving very difficult due to polycystic ovaries. I am to be started on a medication for this - but have to see another specialist beforehand.

I guess a few stories of experiences are what id like to read - the thought of the whole process is so daunting and overwhelming and we still have so much information to find out as well!

Hi there,
I'm not sure about your clinic but never never never was I even told to lose weight by my fertility specialist (I too am PCOS). I know even losing the smallest amount is a mamoth effort as long as you are looking after yourself being on IVF you need to feel as well as you can emotionally and physically. Dont worry about the BMI...start to feel positive that the doctors are there to make you feel comfortable.

HI DjF.

I've never heard of that ... and specially not heard about BMI in IVF ...

I suppose they want to talk about having a healthy life during IVF ????

Good luck with your appt and stay POSITIVE ... it's he BEST treatment ... ;)

Take care .

I was also never told to lose weight when I went through my first cycle. In fact, no doctor ever weighed me at all (apart from when I went in for the egg retrieval and that was for the procedure). Like everyone else is saying, stay positive, eat healthy and I wish you all the luck in the world.

Dear DjF,
I too am seeing the awsome Prof Chapman at St George privAte and I weigh 130kg and it has not been discussed unless I brought it up myself! The girls are the best, I have been going on and off for a few years now and conceived our Abbey first go IUI, but have had other problems since and we are now trying our first ICSI cycle and so am just going to have my first scan to see how I have gone making the eggs this Friday. happybirthday for whenever your birthday is. Dont feel worried, the nurses are very very friendly and love a chat and a joke ...and a chat ....and a chat. So once you get going on your cycles it becomes a bit of fun going for your appointments. I travel 200 klm each way for my scans and sometimes this is every second day and I need to be there by 10am ....so obviously I recommend them!!!!!!
Good luck and stay in touch. And just try and eat healthy stuff most of the time..LOL
