Okay, well at least I know i'm not going totally insane.
My second lot of blood tests came back and now instead of being over active my thyroid has now gone around the other way and is under active.
The bad thing is that I cant get into the specialist until mid DECEMBER!
In one way its a relief to know that I'm not going totally crazy and there is a reason for feeling so horribly tired, down and out, the brain fog that makes me pause half way thru a sentence becuase I have FORGOTTEN what I was saying, feeling cold even on warm days (the heat pump is constantly going), and the sudden inablity to loose weight no matter what I do or dont eat! :o
But its also very scarey. Cause I dont know what to do to help it and I hate the thought that its going to be months before I can see someone about fixing it. I'm also scared because although I dont WANT to have another baby at the moment (possibly ever) the thought that if I get pregnant my risk of miscarrying is much higher is really sad.
I guess I'm just asking does anyone know what I can do to help counteract the symptoms myself until I can see the specialist? The tiredness is getting increasingly worse over the past couple of weeks and my weight....well if it keeps going UP like it is NOW, I'm going to be 2 ton by December! :(
Thanks guys.

Hey Kat,
I know the relief your feeling - it was the same for me. I had been getting progressively worse, always sick, extremely forgetful and just not 'with it', having panic attacks, putting on weight etc. I also was diagnosed with Post Partum Thyroidism. They have now taken the 'Post-Partum' off it - it's just plain old Thyroidism and luckily I get to keep it for life!
Firstly, forget the specialist. I have never been to one. My GP monitors my results every three months and provides me with my prescriptions for Oroxine. All you need is a clever GP. My TSH has gone from 91 down to 3.7 and I've never felt better.
Feel free to PM me. The longer you leave it, the worse you will get. You need to get medication (hormone) asap. It will take about 6 weeks to really kick in completely and you will feel dramatically different. My GP first said 'You won't know how bad you feel now until you realise how good you feel after medication'
Just do it - don't wait.:hugs:

Thanks for the support guys. As for my GP, she is the one who wants me to go to the specialist. I dont think she really knows what to do for me?
Should I go back and ask her to give me some medication in the mean time? 3 months is such a long time away! I'll be back at work by then and I just dont know if I could manage it!

You need to find a GP who has experience in it because they need to get your dose right (it may take a few trips). You're right - managing work and this is so difficult. Going back to work is stressful enough, you don't need this silly thing causing you grief as well.:hugs:

My Dr just rang, the December date wasnt acceptable to her either! She must have been looking at my file again this morning. She has referred me to another specialist and they should call me in the next couple of days and hopefully I'll get in some time next month.

Kat don't stress, it could be for a number of reasons. I'm on heart tablets remember because my heart was racing with my Thyroid problem. Don't stress please, wait till you see the Dr and then make sure you ask as many questions as you can think of.:ecomcity:
Good luck and please let me know how it goes.:fingerscrossed: And remember that I'm always here for you just like you were here for me.:hugs:

hi mischief,
i had an underactive thyroid after i had my son 6 years ago, and took the tabs for about a year,, i still hadnt lost any weight at all and felt very sluggish all the time. I went to the chiropracter one day, and he said my neck was too far forward,, asked if i had been in an accident ,and then asked me if i had a slow thyroid. the answer was yes to both, accident was years ago, but it had thrown my neck forward, which i hadnt realised.the chiro said it had been squashing my thyroid gland. anyway after treating it for a while , i felt heaps better and started losing weight ,, i went off the tabs,as i was a slackass and forgot them alot, anyway i got it checked , and it was still in normal limits,, it had corected itself.
so it was normal all through this pregnancy , and i just had a blood test this week, and guess what , its back, so i have to take the tabs again, and i will be visiting that chiro again, hopefully with the same success.
good luck to you,at least you know what is affecting you now,,
i was told that if you rub iodine into the bottom of your big toes ,this helps a sluggish tyroid but then i was also told you shouldnt mess with it,because you need to be getting the right amount of hormone to make it work properly, so just take the oyroxine(?) as regularily as you can.

I just got my appointment card in the mail. I see the specialist on the 25th of October.
Thats sooooo far away, but I guess much better than the 18th of December!
I'm just soooo tired. Its gotten increasingly worse and worse over the past few weeks. Hopefully its peaking now! And might start to get better....am I dreaming the impossible dream? I'm not feeling quiet as dizzy as often now, but sometimes feel like I'm looking thru a fog and everything is really far away, I zone out so much!
Thank you everyone for your support!

Hey Kat,
Has she put you on any medication as yet? If not, it won't peak - it will just get progressively worse until about 4-6 weeks post the start of the hormone.
I know I'm harping on it but I'd really get a GP who understands the thyroid to get you started on Oroxine. The bad part about hypothyroidism is it needs constant hormone to keep you well and you'd be so much better off at least maintaining it now than waiting another month before you commence.
I can't stress enough how easily this can get on top of you - depression, rapid weight gain, anxiety attacks, mental fog etc. I ended up with pneumonia before mine was diagnosed. You need to nip it asap. Do you know what your levels were on your blood test ? T3, T4 and TSH?

I might try to get into the Dr later in the week because I'm driving around alot and some days I feel like I just cant see.
It doesnt worry me that much if it was just me, but I have Oliver in the car with me all the time, and even if he wasnt I have to be here to be a mummy to him!
Plus, even with a full nights sleep last night I feel as though I havent slept for weeks!
Its so funny though. Thyroid problems make you feel so lousy, but people dont seem to realise how bad it is, because its not a "serious" problem.....does that make sence? You guys are more worried than my family are. Maybe I just dont tell them enough how bad I'm feeling! LOL. Or maybe they think I'm making it up!? HAHA
Hi Kat,
I just wanted to let you know that i have suffred from hyperthyroidism when i was 12 years old. My dad is a doctor but he couldn't find out and thought that all the early symptoms were due to anything else. I had a blood test done just to make it sure. The blood tests came negative. Then after my symptoms flare, i.e tremors , diarrhoea, heat intolerance, weight loss, irritability etc. then we went for a repeat test. I had to eat the medication for two years and have regular thyroid tests since then. In my two year period i have to be compliant in my medication and sometimes i felt like nobody is giving attention. Don't worry dear.
I am with you.

Okay, I have an appointment with my GP on Monday......
So what questions do I need to ask? What should i ask her to do? I just dont know what I am suppost to say or ask....all help appreciated!
All I know is that i am totally stuffed. I have never been able to snooze during the day, but lately I cant get thru the day without it. Even after Oliver was born and I was getting no sleep I couldnt curl up in bed and just SLEEP. Today I was in bed at 2 and asleep before I knew it...TV going, tap dripping, and Oliver murmering in his sleep!
I'm also soooo woozey, the other day driving I had to keep shaking my head and winding down the window because I felt so foggy. And wednesday I got the shakes up so bad and felt really sick climbing one flight of stairs!

Hey there  . Just wondering how your appointment went?

My appointment went OK. My Dr said that she doesnt want to start me on any meds until after I have seen the specialist, as she wants him to be able to get a true idea of what is going on.
So I'm just putting one foot in front of the other at the moment.
I started eating low carb again (like I did prior to TTC) and have found that I'm feeling better on that too. I have more energy and my weight has stabilised.
