We recently purchased the Angel care baby monitor. It is one of the more expensive bands on the market. The reason we purchased this monitor over all others is because a friend of ours had her 3 week old son pass away due to sids. She had him in the bed and fell asleep and when she woke up he wasn't breathing. The justification for the monitor is if the baby stops breathing for 20 seconds an alarm sounds. Has anyone purchased the angelcare monitor or another monitor and what was the reason behind your purchase? And have you had difficulties or problems with your particular monitor.

I had a friend with one of these monitors and it went off a few times. Baby was thoroughly checked out by peadiatrician and no probs. The only result were extremely panicked parents who didn't sleep. On one hand they can be very reassuring, but only if they're working properly.

Bubs is due in January so we havent used it yet but it has a great reputation amongst friends and family that have had it!!!

Hope this helps

We have also bought this monitor for the same reasons that you did.

I've used the AngelCare monitor since DD was born and haven't had any problems with it.
For peace of mind it was definitley worth the extra $$.:)

hello

our bubba is due in 2 weeks and we have this monitor..It was given to us by we would have bought it anyway.....my way of thinking is that I am paranoid as it is (SIDS is the one thing that really worries me about having a baby), and at least with this monitor and also the advise on the SIDS website, I know that we are doing all that we can.....I posted a similar thing a few months ago and the girls who responded all raved about the monitor.......

all the best

I have bought the Angelcare monitor with the sensor pads. I am also paranoid about SIDS and this is the reason I chose the Anglecare. This, combined with a first aid course in infant CPR will put my mind a bit more at ease.

A friend gave me her AngelCare monitor as she no longer needed it. We have used it for 14 months for every sleep and it gives me a great sense of security.

I know a lot of people are actually quite anti movement-monitors "its a bit over the top darling really..." "those false alarms are just so upsetting and it really has no value..." BUT if used appropriately I think they can be helpful and can give you peace of mind.

Our little man has legitimately set his off (about 1/2 a dozen times one night) because he was really conjested and struggling to breathe. Isn't of just causing me to panic what the Angelcare did was allow me to get some much-needed rest. We set up his room as best we could to help him but I didn't need to sleep in a chair in his room or listen to every breath because I knew I could keep an eye (or rather an ear) on what was happening and take him to hospital if necessary.

We had some false alarms when we set it up in his portacot but by adjusting the pad placement and sensitivity it was fine. If they are set up correctly you should get very few false alarms with the AngelCare. I know of people who have had false alarms because a cable has slipped out, the pad moved and their bub crawled or rolled to far away in their sleep and I know that moment of panic when you hear it go off... its one of the scariest things you will hear, but IMO rather a hundred false alarm panics than a lifetime of regret.

I have this monitor however I had so many problems with the sound quality that I went out and got a normal baby monitor and I just turn on the unit so the mats still work so if he stops breathing the alarm will sound and I hear it on the 2nd monitor- if you do this you just have to make sure that they are on different channels

I have the angel care monitor and think it's fantastic, it gives you such peace of mind. I'm sure I'd be checking on DD all the time if I didn't have it. I have a three level home we're on the top at one side, she on the bottom on the other side and we've had no reception problems. I think the alarm may go off when batteries are low too, so just make sure you change them regularly. I agree tho that it would be worth the false alarms.

We have one and it has been fantastic, no problems at all. I was nervous about going on holidays and bub been in a porta cot. We took the monitor with us and all slept well.

The other thing I like is that bub doesnt have to be on the sensor mat for it to work - they can be anywhere on the mattress. I only discovered this a few weeks ago - it should work until bub is about 14 months - ie when she can escape the cot.
I would buy one of these again in a second and spend less on clothes etc. Worth every bit. Target often have them at 20% off too.

I have the angel care one - BEST buy out of everything I ever bought for my son - you do have to play around with the settings a bit and make sure you set the pad etc up correctly....I just couldn't leave bub asleep without one.

We even took ours when we stayed at MILs and he was in a portacot.

We have used the angelcare monitor since the 3rd day our daughter was home. She went into her cot then. We had a false alarm a couple of weeks later, which gave us a huge fright, not to mention I was lucky I didn't damage my c-section scar jumping out of bed. My husband then turned up the sensitivity to maximise and we haven't had a problem since. The only other time the alarm went off was at about 4am when DD was moving so much in the cot that she wasn't on the sensor pad anymore. I ran into her room again to find her in crawling position smiling up at me!!!! The best thing we invested in.

We have the same monitor and we love it, love it, love it!!!! Worth every cent and more I think - I slept better and still sleep better knowing it was there, it is easy to test to see if the sensor pad works and it's just fabulous. It is also easily portable if you are going on holidays or something.
Target also actually have 20% off them right at this very moment!!
