DD (10 months) started getting nappy rash yesterday, just a little red so out came the Desitin cream. Today it is very red with weepy sores (although, thankfully, it doesn't seem to be bothering her much). So the heater is switched on and the nappy is off, bottom is smeared with sudocreme and sprinkled with powder - so I am doing everything I can.

I've just read on RCH website that I can use a hydrocortisone cream (1%) for persistant nappy rash. I do have a tube of this for DD because she had dermatitis on her hands last week. It cleared her hands up super-quick, so am considering trying it on her bottom. Has anyone used it for nappy-rash and is it effective?

If it doesn't start to clear up with normal nappy cream and nappy-free time within a few days, I'd probably take her to the GP.

My DD had a really bad rash once that just wouldn't go away, and the only thing that cleared it up was Daktozin cream (for nappy rash associated with fungal infections). The kids recently had really bad gastro too and their poor little bottoms were so sore and red I could barely change their nappies. Daktozin cleared it up in no time thank goodness.

Yep, I use 1% cortisone and an antifungal combined and when it has soaked in slather with desitin. DD's dermatologist says that most nappy rashes are fungal, so use the cortisone until the inflammation settles and keep using the antifungal until a few days after the rash has cleared completely.
