How early was your baby. My daughter was born at 34weeks and yes we woke her for feeding, other wise she would of never woke as she slept and slept. Once we got home she was on 3hourly feeds so i didnt let her go over the 3 hrs of a day in the begining and no more then 4hrs at night. She has now caught up and is right on target with her weight. She is now almost 4 months and demand feeds an i am happy to say that she goes 7hrs at night which is great for our sleep.

My bub was born at 35 weeks. While he was in the scn they had him on 4 hour feeds, if he was getting a tube feed he would just keep sleeping right through and if it was a suck feed they were waking him for it.
Since we got him home last week he is demand feeding and very unsettled! Here i was thinking i was going to have this perfect little content baby and i seem to have the opposite!
Don't worry, soon enough you will be wishing bubs would sleep so you can have a break lol!

My DD was premmie, and she was a sleeper, we didn't get her home untill she was 4wks old, and I still had to wake her for feeds then both day and night, right up untill she was 12wks old, or around about there, I had a very sleepy baby, she would sleep all the time, and fall asleep anywhere in any position lol.
It's their way of dealing with all the extra stimuli and it helps them grow. That's why in NICU, especially, they limit holding time and keep it dark and quiet.
My DD slept all the time too!
It won't last so enjoy it and get some rest urself.
Obviously don't let bub sleep through feeds, but otherwise sleep is a great thing. Especially for mums :P

My 35 weeker was incredibly sleepy and at 4 months is a champion mapper most of the time. I did have to wake him for feeds but by his due date he would wake on his own.

I've got a 28 weeker, he's 4 weeks old today and very sleepy. They usually "wake up" around due date though...
So good to hear Im not the only one with a sleepy premie. People are amazed about the way she goes to sleep straight after a bottle. I think I have been lured into a falseness. She is now 8wks but really 4 weeks if you adjust her age to what it should be had she been full term. And she is starting to become more awake. She is waking herself for feeds.

UM HELLO ! this post is a load of bs as this user is a troll &&&& does not have a premmie !
so happy that there is a premie support group. They are special bubs with special qualities.
My bubs was so sleepy at the start and needed waking for her bottles. Just now she is starting to wake us. We get quite edgy if she hasn't woken for a feed and its over four hours. lol.
Has anyone else got so used to waking their bubs that when they started waking themselves and they went over the four hours got edgy and wondered if they should wake their bubs??

I have a happy, healthy, smart 3 and a half yr old who was born 32 weeks and 6 days in oct 2007. I had severe Pre Eclampsia that turned into HELLP syndrome and almost lost my life and my baby. However things are brighter then ever now!! It was the worst time in our lives and yet something miraculous came out from the very experience, all i can say to mums and dads going through it is HANG in there, you never know what an amazing miracle you may get. I am truly blessed for every day.. Good luck to all
I had her naturally she came very quick no time for a c-section. She came out on 2 hours!!
Did anyone's baby have a reflux problem?

Hi. I have a 10 and a half month old boy who was born at 33 weeks & 3 days. He is going well apart from being sick thru winter with these horrible bugs that r going around. I guess my question is directed at those who have older premmies... I have been worried about delay in growth and development since he was born that I don't think I wouldve if my boy wasn't premmie. Does it go away?? We've always been told that even though he was premmie, he is a good, normal size now. But I have friends with kids 4 months younger that have babies bigger and longer than my boy. he is 9.1kg, 72cm. Both my husband and I r over 6foot so I think we just expected that he would be long!! Now that he's not, I can't help but worry. I know it sounds stupid but can't help the feelings. :( anyway, just needed to rant. Thanks :)
I have a 32wker, she came early as I have IC, but was and Is happy & healthy. I remember she would fall asleep with feeds but like other people have said she 'came alive' about her due date! She is now 3 1/2years about 11kg, she is a petite, cute little thing and is ahead of her developmental mile stones. However she will always be little but Im not huge!
Good luck with everything its worth the hard yards in the end!

Both my prems: 35weeker & 25 Weeker were both sleepy babies. My 35weeker is turning 3 in 12days & my 25weeker will be turning 1 in 16days (8months corrected).
My almost 3yo daughter is behind with her language but that's because she had so many problems with her ear infections & getting severe glue ear. She had no problems gross & motor skill wise & was doing most things off her real age.
My 25weeker on the other hand is behind in a lot of things. I talk to my DIG thread still & listening to what their babies are doing is quite disheartening ESP when Livvy is having problems on top of her delays (chronic lung disease requiring oxygen 24/7 & seizure/apnea episodes).
Both have had severe cases of RSV this year resulting in a bowel interception for miss 3 due to glands being so swollen & severe bronchitis for bub back in April that they were hospitalized (touch wood not since).
Just waiting for the day I can look back on all this and it be a distant nightmare.

Hey BabyD,
I have an almost 4yr old now that was born at just over 1.5kgs. He was 32 weeks and 6days along when I was forced into being induced due to illness. What you are feeling and thinking is perfectly normal. For the longest time I also kept worrying about how he was growing and developing, and I came to realise that he would do, what he needed to do in his own time. I needed to stop comparing and worrying so much. He was alot smaller for a long time and yet now you can barely tell he was premmie as he has pretty much caught up to his peers, and let me tell you even though he was premmie he is alot more switched on to most kids born at full term. Its ok, really, when he was 2.5yrs I also wondered about when is it ok to not have to mention to people he was prem, and I came to that in my own time, I just needed to allow myself time. Don't be hard on yourself, its ok. Hang in there, and you will see it will pan out to where it needs to be.. HUGS!! :)
When my son was a newborn I met a male nurse that was born much smaller then my son and guess what!! You would not have picked it! It gave me hope for the future.

I had my twin boys at 33wks back in Feb 2005. They are now 6 and a half years old and started school this year. As far as their growth (height, weight etc) they are fairly similar to all the other boys in their class. They are the oldest preps though but regardless I spent a lot of time anxiously pondering the effects of prematurity on my beautiful sons and so far they have caught up over time and all the anxiety did nothing to effect any of this.
Hi everyone - my baby boy was born at 35+1 via an emergency c section.
We were in the nursery for 12 days in total, breastfeeding straight away and he was demand feeding by about day 7 which was a good thing.
What I was wondering about was when your bubs started smiling/giggling? Is this delayed at all due to being prems? He does his little sleepy smiles and laughs, and has done a few smiles and even a laugh while awake but I was just wanting to know when is it the normal time for him to be doing this regularly? He is 8wks exactly today.....

My DS was a 35 weeker... Smiled at around 10 and a half weeks so 5 and a half corrected
Yes things such as smiling are delayed. My premie didn't start smiling till 10 or 11 weeks. Which meant she was 5 or 6 weeks adjusted. She was also delayed a little in holding her head up too. But all is well now.
Except feeding and day sleeps.

Hi, My little girl was born at 29 weeks and was a little of both. She was in hospital for 7 weeks and while in there we were made to wake her every 3hrs for feeds. But once home, they said that it was fine to let her go up to 5hrs between feeds and then wake her up. I woke her during the day but at night time I would give her a dream feed, then roll her onto her side to burp. That way she would still be asleep and still getting her feeds.
My 35wker was sleepy - grab the rest while u can. It's crazy once they "come alive".
PMSL and LOL...that is sooooooooooo true!!!!!!!!!!!!
