How do you know when you bub is ready to make the 'big move'. DD is seeming to hate her cot(it only started tonight but i thought i'd get in early with some advice)?
any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated!

how old is your DD? I'm interested cos I'm thinking in advance for when my second baby is born, DD will be 20months.

If it only started tonight - it could just be a phase - how old is DD? My son went into a big bed when he was about 13mths cause we had #2 when he was 18 1/2 mths so we wanted to get in early......

Struggled for a while trying to start with daytime sleeps and it was very stressful - then had a bright idea!!! He loved going to sleep at night, so we tried him at night instead and he soon realised that was what he was supposed to be doing, and the transition after that was easy......although there was the occasional day when he didn't have a day time nap cause he was not confined like he was in the cot.....but that just meant an earlier bed time that night.

I think it depends on how well a sleeper your DD is (and her age)

We started with taking the front off her cot, so that she could feel like she was in a big bed, but not. If you know what I mean.
It's not too far to the floor when she falls out, and she's falling out way less now.
We're not going to bother with the 'real' big bed for another few months.
She's 22 months, and we don't have another on the way yet, so I don't think there's any rush.

We've had a car bed in DS's room since he was about 20 months to get him used to the idea because we had DD a few months later. But then I got hold of another cot (actually, the one I was in as a bub) and so DD is using that- DS just doesn't seem to be ready, but even if he does think his car bed is cool, he sleeps so well in his cot and therefore we won't rush him. He does enjoy tucking his teddies up in his bed and then going to sleep in the cot- he'll get there himself eventually. He's 27 months old.

My DD went into her big bed at 18 months. (in preparation for our new arrival!)
She was also hating her cot, and would scream when it came to bed time. We got her used to her big bed before moving her into it and it was a very smooth transition.
