Does anyone know or have any information about whether or not some foods can cause cradle cap - or contribute to it? DS was cradle cap free till we started solids - I am wonderin :) g if its just a coincidence or perhaps food related???

Hi! Have you thought of taking your baby to a naturopath/ homeopath? They will probably be able to pin point exactly whats causing the problem.
The only other way you could work out if it is food is to start from sctatch. Eliminate what he is eating and introduce everything back individually and very slowly to give time for a reaction. (a natropath would be much quicker though!! )
What do you bath him in? That can affect it greatly. Sometimes a skin allergy can build up over time so it may be a product you've been using for a while.
The weather can affect it too. If its been cold or windy.
As for treating it, if you go to a good hairdresser they can reccomend a good oil to massage into his scalp.
Good Luck, I hope it clears up for your little man :) ....

Hi Briannabear,

A naturopath sounds like a good idea and alot faster ,as you say than food elimation. We wash him in QV -and have always done. I suspect - that the rice cereal might be the culprit... goodness knows why - but when I have stopped giving him it for a few days/week - cradle cap lessens?? Go figure

How strange! Rice cereal is usually such a low allergen.
Good luck with the naturopath - I swear by them. If anyone will be able to work it out for you it will be them! :D

Our DS has both allergies and what looks like cradle cap but were pretty sure its either eczema or a form of dermititis. His on a strict diet which has helped control the eczema on his body but didnt budge the stuff on his scalp (which is very itchy and DS scratches it in his sleep causing it to bleed!) when he turned one we shaved his head (no comb) and that got rid of it but its just recently started appearing again since his hairs grown back. I really dont have any helpful ideas as I 've tried heaps of stuff but nothing works!
Good luck and keep us posted on how you go with natropath :)
