I am currently working two very part-time jobs (one job, approx 4 hrs 2 nights a week, second job approx one weekend day a week). I am considering looking for a job with more hours (more money LOL) but cannot afford childcare. I am thinking about family daycare. I was just hoping to get some people's opinions on this and their experiences (good and bad). I have this mental image in my head of a woman with 10 kids and a smoke in her mouth looking after my son! I know its not realistic, but I am worried! I hate the thought of leaving my son with someone else - especially someone I don't know. :(

My son is in Family daycare. I never knew the lady, until I went to her house and asked about her looking after my son. She had been doing it along time and I watched her with the kids and with her own kids. She is a beautiful person, who was so patient and loving. She made me feel that she loved my little boy like I do.She is his second mum. I don't think they do much other than play but I am thinking closer to school age I will put in him preschool a couple of days a week. It works for me as it is alot cheaper, 6am-6pm every day (except weekends)
I miss my son too but I feel he is with a loving person so I don't tend to worry too much. I provide all the food and clothes and nappies etc but that's OK.
