Hmmm interesting article, kind of upsetting though considering I have had 5 scans already and am only 26 weeks:gloomy:

Oh gosh I am really sorry. :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: I didnt mean to upset anyone. I'm sure it means nothing. Try not to worry at all.

The woman sounds a bit kooky to me....
But these days it has become routine to have an ultrasound through the vagina at 12 weeks, "so the ultrasound probe is right up against the cervix, right next to the foetus."
This is not true - "routine" 12 week scans are done through the abdomen. I wouldn't trust much of what a supposed U/S "expert" who doesn't even know that says
One thing that does academics lots of good is publicity, and one thing the media loves is a bit of scaremongering so I'll be looking to see if there are actually any facts behind this, or if it's just someone trying to get themselves in the news.

No your fine, thanks for posting about the article, it really is interesting:yes: It just annoys me the way some journalists don't realise that 9/10 times there are medical reason why the scans are done. Ie: if there was problems with getting ultrasounds done (though no clinical trial has been conducted) majority of the time I am sure the reason for getting it done far outways the risk if there is any (if that makes sense).

I think this article is basically an ad for the person's talk on Thursday - it's not exactly "newsworthy" IMO to have an article about someone saying there possibly could be risks about something, but despite the fact there is no evidence of this "we just don't know".
I noticed as well that Karen Pollard is "Ms Pollard", not "Dr Pollard" - which means she does not have a PhD, and if she is in fact a lecturer, she's unlikely to be a very senior one, or be regarded as much of an expert.
Btw - not having a go at you for posting the link emma! It's interesting to read, but I get frustrated when they'll report anything so long as it's contraversial! :)
