my ds chucks wobblies alot. and often he resorts to bashing his head on the floor or something hard  to get his own way which he doesnt but then he cries coz he hurt himself.does anyone else have a head banger?
he has a few bruises from yesturdays tantrums. i want to know how other parents of head bangers cope lol
my ds was a head banger also. i understand that this is fairly normal. i just ignored the behaviour and he gave up eventually as he was using it to get my attention. I didn't want to encourage the behaviour, so he figured out it wasn't going to get him anywhere and gave up on it.
he stopped for about 6 months and now he has started to smack himself on his head with his hands when he is grumpy/frustrated etc. I have chosen to ignore this also as he does it and then looks at me for a reaction. He will get over it eventually - I think it has a lot to do with communication at this age. DS can't say what he wants yet, and I don't know a lot of the time what it is that he wants, so he will resort to self-abuse to communicate and vent his frustration.

i try to ignore it too but sometimes its so hard.
i am worried he will give himself a nice big bruise and someone will think he has been beaten up at home or something.lol
i know what you mean, DS used to bash his head against the brick wall in our lounge room. I reckon if you think he is going to hurt himself, just try distracting him or moving him away from whatever it is he is hitting his head against. I would suggest not to make a fuss about moving him/checking him (unless of course, you do think he has really hurt himself) because I have found it just encourages the behaviour because he is getting attention.
As a last resort, you could buy him a bike helmet! LOL.
I have no advice Jess, but my DS is also a head banger . Its so frustrating isnt it!!

 i actually suggested that the other day when DS chucked a huge tantrum and started banging his head all because he had to move so DP could get passed lol DP said a helment would probably just encouarge ds.
our ds likes to lick his reflection so...it would make him look as DP puts it "special"
Mum2Jacob- i know i am waiting for the day someone asks why ds has a massive bruise on his head or how he got the nice big bump lol MIL doesnt ask anymore she has seen the tantrums.i am dreading the day ds does some head banging in a shop or something...
