View Full Version : GRRRR Leaking Nappies- HELP!!
Hi all
I have a 1 week old baby, he weighs 7 pound 9 ounces and I am at my wits end with the amount of nappies that constantly leak. Actually my DS is at his wits end and its unnecessary for him to undergo numerous changes including jumpsuits, vests and wraps etc while he is in the middle of his sleep. Its so unsettling for him and infuriates me.
I have tried Dry Bots, Huggies and Aldi (newborn) and they all leak, mainly up his back and up his left side. I have tried putting them on tight and altering the way they sit so they are higher up his back etc and no luck. About every second nappy leaks!!
If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.

sorry that this is a basic question, but are you making sure that his penis is pointing down?
other than that I really don't know, sorry.
Hi there- yes I forgot to mention that his penis is pointing down.
Do you run your fingers through the leg bands making sure the elastic is sitting out
how often do u normally change his nappy - ie: after a feed/before a feed etc?
I run my fingers through the leg bands to ensure they are out. I change him before a feed. I havent changed him after a feed as he is so sleepy (1 week old). I usually find that the nappy leaks about an hour into his sleep as he wakes up crying due to being wet.
try the next size up. when my boy was still in sposies i would go to the next size once they started to leak. always solved the problem. i find the kg ranges to be rubbish
G'day, I had the same problem but with my little girl. I have been using the extra inserts (they call them Boosters) that you can buy for Bambooties for her long sleeps at night and they've worked really well. I wash them, dry them in the sun and reuse them. I have a few on the go. Worth a try!
are you pulling the tabs right across? when you are pointing the penis down are you holding it down whilst you do one side up then sliding your hand out to do the otherside up? is the ambilical clamp still on? if so are you folding the nappy under that or are you doing the nappy up over it?
Thanks for all of your replies ladies. I am going to try a larger size nappy and see how that goes, then look at the inserts. I am doing all of the above and his cord clip was removed before he left hospital so thats all good.
I hope something works because as you know, its so not fair to them if their sleep is disrupted just because of a leaky nappy.

I found the babylove really good when DD was a newborn they seemed wider. Could be worth a go. The last thing you need is more washing.

I also found the Babylove the best. I also have to put the nappies on fairly tight, but not tight enough that it leaves marks on the skin when removed :D
We had the same problem, but only when little miss rolled onto her side in bed. Side coverage in Huggies newborns isn't very good. Luckily she stays on her back now.

I used to have exactly the same problem with DS!
I'm going to try explain this as best I can with out being crude so please bear with me...
I think the problem might be that the nappy sits too low and not firm enough in the crotch, as I too used to swear black and blue that squirtle was pointing down, but he still used to pee "uphill"
I think that it might be that little squirtle stands up and the pee goes up hill, and if the nappy is higher around the waist and firmer in the crotch he has to stay sitting down...
ok, enough said...

If all else fails, a cloth nappy over the top of the disposable helps
