We just recieved our new assessment and I have a quick question...
We purposely over estimate our income or FTB so we get a cheque in the mail to pay our rego, Christmas laybys etc.
So... Our new assessment is based on that amount, even though DH hasn't done his tax return yet. I don't get it....
It says we should be giving her over $700 which is ridiculous!
Can someone explain how it all works please...
I would be calling CSA that don't sound right. Every thing is linked now but thats just odd. Maybe there going off the estimate now till tax is done
Hope somebody has some more info
:hugs:

I assumed that they do the assessment from the previous tax year. I definitely would be calling them to find out.

the assessments should be based on you tax return, if you havent lodged it yet, then they will base it on last years tax return but, I would be getting onto them. I wish you luck with that one. My DH currently pays $1000 a month and his ex is sending him text telling him she is in debt because her washer broke, and she cant afford to get his boys to the airport. WTF is she doing with the money also the reason for the text about the washer, she wants DH to buy her a new one!!! becuase his sons clothes were in it when it broke:eek:

Messed up is an understatement. we spent over $6000 on 3 boys, buying new beds, bedding, air fairs and a comlete wardrobe of clothes becasue they came for 4 weeks with nothing but what was on their backs and when DH tried to claim for half the travel and the clothes, they told him "well if she say s yes we can deduct it from your payments but, if she says no then tough luck" I mean come on we Pay $1000 a month she should be paying half of travel and if we have the reciepts for the clothing and we send it home we should get the money back without her haveing to say YES.:freakingout::hair::hair:

If your travel expenses reach 5% of your income in a year then you can claim back travel expenses thru CS without custodial parents say so. That law is in place to protect CS for the children and to stop people from rorting the system. My ex tries to claim every expense under the sun when he visits once every 6 months. He even tried to claim for the birthday present he bought DS.

Can I ask why they made you income for CS the same as Centrelink?

It was to do with previous years income which happened to be the same as our 'over estimate' iykwim!

I have learnt that its wise to provide the ATO/Centrelink/CSA with all the same information
I have been caught out - my own mistake - in the past and had to sort out repayments/underpayments
as much as it sucks, its always better to keep the information consistent
