my LO is 6 months old and I've been trying to introduce veggies and fruit for about a month (he's a reflux baby so Doc suggested starting at 4 months, I waited a bit longer anyway), but everything he eats, specially when he eats well, gives him a rash on both sides of his head, he scratches it, gets really angry because of the itching and is full of nail marks on his head.

He is more than ready for solids as he really wants to eat and does so well when he likes the taste of food. I tried food challenge but it doesnt matter what he eats, the rash is always there from 2 to 6 hours later. It goes away in a few hours to a day. I'm getting really disheartened and came to dread feeding time. Has anyone's baby had that? By the way, he was tested for lactose intolerance because of a mild diarrhea once and he's not lactose intolerant. Any ideas as to what could be causing it? Should I stopped solids? Thanks a lot for any information/help.

I'm not sure but I guess I'd be tempted to stop for a few weeks then try again. My son had a rash up the side of his head - from his eye past his temple and into his head - when he ate apples pears and yoghurt. Apparently apple and pear are unusual allergies but yoghurt is common. We did gradual exposure and he grew out of it over several months. Your case is trickier as he gets it from any food. If he is drinking his milk and growing there is no harm in postponing solids a month or so except now he's got a taste for it he might protest!

He doesn't think it is allergy to food. He says it looks like dermatitis. Food can make it worse, but not cause it (like eczema, maybe?).

He suggests I use a very mild cortisone cream when needed for 5 days and if it doesn't improve in 2 weeks, to take him back. Let's see what happens.

Could be allergies... my DD now 15 months had a reaction to solids at 5 months. Started with a rash then it never went away and wefound out it was eczema and she was allergic to almonds, egg whites and yolk and cows milk (dairy). So she had to be put on neocate formula too.

I'd take him to the dr to make sure it ist allergies..

my 4 week old came out in a rash on her face when she reacted to soy formula she was put on for milk protein intolerance.
Maybe try the cream until the rash is gone, then try solids again & see if the rash comes back.
I guess just be careful that it doesn't get any worse. I would still request to see an allergist to get some skin tests done to make sure he is not allergic to the foods.
