So my dd 13 months has normal vegemite on toast all the time and i thought i would try her on my 1st vegemite. The first time she had a rash everywhere the vegemite came into contact with her skin on her face hands ect. I thought how could that be so i tryed it agian two days later and the reaction was even worse!

She not only came out with a rash but it looked like big pimples inside the rash areas, it looked like she had been stung over and over by bees. She also had a bad nappy rash after she pooed that looked like it was gonna make her bleed. She never has nappy rash.I havent changed the bread or marg i use either, so cant be that.

Rang craft and the differnt ingredients found in my 1st and not in the original verion are as follows. 1 b12
2.b6
3.folate
4.iron
5.glycerin
6.ferric pyrophoshate.

Seen gp and he said it is hard to test for allergys in these 6 things. Has anyone heard or had a simular experiance? I am just scared that if she has the ingredient she has a reaction to, in a higher does in a food it may be worse agian this time.

We haven't had an allergic reaction but ds hates the stuff!! It is absolutely vile!!

I can't remember what the names were (on phone) but maybe the reaction was from the last two ingredients?

I've gone back to giving ds regular Vegemite, just super thin spread and not as often as before ...

( ... life's too short to sweat the small stuff ... )

It would most likely be the ferric pyrophosphate, everything else she would most likely have come into contact with. (glycerine is in a lot of soaps and creams, the others are common food additives). Its used to aid iron absorption and is a relatively new additive. Has also been linked to tumours and stomach problems. You might have to check ingredients from now on to make sure she isn't getting any.

Another thing I thought of, maybe it has a higher concentration of yeast extract? A lot of people can't tolerate glutamates (which is what yeast extract is).

HTH!
