Hi there!

my ds has had conjunctivitis since Friday - 5 days now. I'm wondering if this is a long time to have it? I have been using eye drops, keeping it clean and now I've started using salt water as something different.

Does anybody have any suggestions at all on how to get rid of it quickly. He is suppose to go to daycare on Thursday and I can't really afford to have any time off work if he can't go because of the conjunctivitis.

Thank you

I would go to the GP and see if he can give you some medicated eye drops or antibiotics or some other advice to help. Best of luck.

if you are breastfeeding, breast milk is really good and quick and cheap at clearing conjunctivitis, otherwise my daughter used drops and it took a few days.

I find Chlorsig drops aren't that good to be honest. You have to wash each eye out with salt water, then put the drops in then repeat it every 2-3hrs. Not sure if they told you that or not.

Chlorsig ointment is much better as you just need to put a little bit in each eye without having to wash it out.

Which son? Your younger son is probably too young for drops, my DD is 15 months and my doc wouldnt let her have any and chemist said 'too young' as well. I was told an 'old' cure used to be to clean them with cooled tea... and amazingly enough it worked with my two DD's who had it for over TWO WEEKS :S we just couldnt get rid of it.. but the tea worked wonders!

my ds has had conjunctivitis 3 times
and ussually by thr 5 or 6 th day of the prescription eye drops his eyes clear up the last time it took 8 days.
i was told by a chemist that generally over the counter eye drops are not recomended for treating conjunctivitis in littlies
