The girls do calisthenics. It's $16 per week, which is fine. Then I have to pay extra for costumes, hair pieces, etc etc. It seems I am paying for something different every second week, I knew about the annual fees when I signed them up, but the other hidden extras they didn't tell me about until I signed up. They have only been there since Feb this year and already I have spend about $300, that doesn't include the weekly session fees ($16). They have their first comp coming up in July which they will be doing, but after that I am not sure what to do. I have thought about maybe just letting them do one competion and then that's it or maybe let them stay til the end of the year (when they have a concert and parents, grandparents etc can come). I am not sure if I want them to continue next year or not. They are both in the same group now which is every Wednesday night, but next year Hayley will be in the next level which will mean a different night (so two nights a week both girls on different nights) plus it gets more expensive as they get older too.

Sorry, I know this wasn't much of a question. But just wondering what other people would do. Keep them in til the end of the year? Continue on with it as long as they want? They love going, I just hate having to pay for all these things constantly.

They do swimming too (all three kids) it's $52 per fortnight which is direct debited, so even though I am paying for it, it doesn't feel that way (if that makes sense). There's no hidden extras either. I pay for the creche separately which is $8 a week,

I think if you don't have the money or can't justify spending the money then pull them out soon. If you have the money but don't see the point then wait out the year, they might not even enjoy by the end of the year.

There are plenty of other activites they can do that are alot cheaper.

Good luck

If I did take them out, I don't think I'd put them into something else. They already do swimming anyway, and Hayley's school apparently has dancing classes though she couldn't do it this year because it's on the same night as calisthenics.

If you can't afford it then I would pull them out sooner. Let's face it, its a luxury, so if its a question of necessity vs luxury, then the luxury needs to be sacrificed.

if you pulled them out soon, what would you do with their costumes etc that you have bought? would they still use them for something else or could you sell them? im just thinking if you pulled them out, the money you spent on costumes etc would sort of go to waste.

Costumes can be sold back to them, or privately.

They don't actually have any costumes yet.

My aunt and uncle spend in excess of 13,000 per year on their three kids doing gymnastics....

Good grief!

If you can't afford it and it is causing additional family strain, pull them out. As you said, they do swimming and dance through the school is another option.
