My son has an allergy to peanuts (fine with tree nuts). I had a complete brain fart tonight and made up a meal with lentils, forgetting that lentils are legumes like peanuts. He ate a whole bowl and then I realised, but so far he seems fine (was about half an hour ago) he has also eaten hommus before with no issues..
So if peanuts and lentils etc. are all in the same family, should I avoid the other types of legumes? Could he have a reaction in the future (develop an allergy to them)?

bump..
Has he had his allergy testing? My son has quite a severe reaction to pine nuts but is fine with all other types of seeds, it seems to be contained to just pine nuts - I hope it's the same for your little one :fingerscrossed:

My niece is allergic to lentils but not other legumes so it is entirely possible for your son to be allergic to peanuts but alright with other things in the same family.
I have an adult onset nut allergy, so far to every nut i've tried since developing it (peanuts, almonds, macadamia, brazil, cashews) and have never had any issues with legumes. Hopefully your son is the same when it comes to legumes, they are a great source of all things nutty for me without being a nut as such.

he did yes, I have an epipen now. He only reacted to the peanuts, not other nuts or shellfish (that is all that was tested). Because peanuts are legumes I don't know if that means I should avoid other types of legumes like lentils.
Hopefully he won't develop an allergy to them down the track then :fingerscrossed:
