View Full Version : Townsville 2011 Bubs
Thought I might start a thread for any mums with Bubs in Townsville who might have any good tips/ideas for development, settling...and any good places to go etc. Do we have many bubhub users with babies born this year who are in Townsville?
For a conversation starter has anyone done the mums and Bubs fitness sessions at the pcyc. I was looking at it and wondered what it's like...

You can post on this thread if you want though. I don't mind, was more I think to have Townsville mothers be able to share ideas etc. You can share what we have ahead of us. :)

Nawwww thanks! Townsville threads seem to be few and far between!
Has anyone been to a spit the dummy session at readings? I miss going to the movies soooo much but don't know how DD would go...
Funny you should ask I am going to try one of those next week. Will let u know how it goes if you like
So what are some good places to eat out with child facilities, change tables etc. Toms tavern is good, has change tables in disabled toilet and a kiddie play area. Can anyone suggest some others?

Coffe club at Willows is pretty good, so is the steak house on the strand. Bonus when the kids are older you can take them out for lunch and then a play at the water area. DD is 22 months and she loves it there.
Ooh good to know. Will have to give it a try.

That would be great! I want to see x-men and pirates of the carribean 4 soooooo bad! DD won't settle for my DP at night time so I am trying to source alternate ways of seeing them!
As for eating - aqua is great for dinner. They have a 5:30 sitting and it's buffet so you don't have to wait. Lots of high chairs and a change area in the disabled toilets. More expensive on Friday and Saturday though.
Avenues tavern bistro has a kids play area too, and so does brothers leagues club. Quick service which is always good and brothers has some great weekday specials.
Coffee club willows I agree is good - can be a pain with a pram though I've found :(
Cbar on the strand is useless - nowhere to change bub's nappy and food took forever!
I'm sure I've been to more but can't think right now!

Emmy - if you sit outsde at coffee club it's actually not too bad, I went with my tank of a strider and didn't have an issue. I hate going inside to eat if I can help it, DD squeals VERY loudly when she is happy about something, which at almost 2 is all. The. Time!

Ohhh. I've never sat outside - I hate the heat and smell of cars haha - though when my DD is older I'll probably change my mind too ;).

So been looking at child care options today for next year. Anyone heard any good reports from any particular place?
So went to a spit the dummy (mum and bub session) at reading cinemas today. Was good, not too noisy and the tickets are heaps cheaper! 10 dollars something and they have a change table in disabled toilets. Definitely would do it again. Nice to get out :)

Hey all,
Just an introduction to the group....DS is 10 weeks old and we live in Kirwan too.
Just giving you all an update on places that DON't have baby change room (Lansta you and I talked about this at movies.....), however they have good meals which is a shame.
* Bohle Barn
* West End Hotel
* Hotel Allen
* Commonwealth Hotel
* Joy Thai (from memory)
* Satay Mas (from memory)
My family and I enjoy going out to pubs for a reasonably price, but value for money dinners and obviously the older hotels have the cheaper meals (as opposed to the Daly etc).
Any other suggestions would be appreciated though as I hate changing DS in the pram at the table, and am resorting to taking him to the car or worse on the sinks / floor of the toilets (thank goodness my nappy bag has an inbuilt change mat!)
Hey pure ::waves::
Hope your morning went better than mine. Woke up to feed him at 730 and he threw up all over me. Ugh

Nope - Max has changed his times again!!! He's decided to start waking up at 10.30pm for a feed instead of midnight and then still up at 2.30am and awake at 5am! I am absolutely shattered - somehow managed to get in 2 naps today which were desperately needed. Am thinking he's going through a growth spurt. But am transitioning him to the cot at the moment. Actually Max had a bit of a spew at some stage through the night - changing towels at 3am is not fun! Hope the rest of your day went better though.
BTW - for the info sessions, the sleep one (on 6/6 I think) is not compulsory - it is by appointment for a one on one session with a nurse.
How's everyone's little one's dealing with the cold snap???? I'm thinking that's why Max isn't sleeping that well. I've gone out and not only bought warmer clothes, but flannelette cot sheets, a warmer underlay ($10 at Big W - bargain!!!) But the early morning feeds and wake up calls are killing me!!! This is Townsville not Melbourne!!! Somebody turn up the heat!
It sure is cold, that's for sure. Last night I had Thomas in a pair of track pants, singlet, long sleeve warm jumper, socks and in a grow bag with long sleeves. Covered him with a sheet and had the fan off and window shut. I probably went overboard but mind you he slept from 10pm to 730 (which was better than the 3hr wake ups like the day before which was because he was cold i think) so he must have been warm enough. I was worried how he would go though as it was 20 degrees last night. Brrr

I'm doing the same - Max is a bit like the michelin man at the moment. Singlet, long sleeve one piece, socks, a fleecy swaddle and a blanket in the bassinette. Plus no fan and window shut. Like you, think he's going to be overheated but he slept from 7.30pm until 4.30am last night! :hyper:

Ooh lucky you. Must have been my turn for broken sleep. He woke up twice throughout the night last night. Felt like zombie woman this morning
Went to aqua (restaurant in jupiters) and they have change tables in jupiters

We cosleep, so Sam just cuddles in close to deal with the cold. DH is on course so away all week so my toddler is also in bed with me.
Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've been on BH but am expecting #2 bubba, due in September.
I saw someone asked about fitness classes. My friends go to one on Friday mornings at the little church hall on the corner of Pilkington St and Mooney St. she said it's an awesome workout and you bring your kids and bubbas along. If anyone wants details I can ask her for some :) I also do yoga with Blissfilled Mamas and thinks she does a class for mums with babies...
Hope you're all dealing with the cool nights okay. Will try pop back in again soon :)
Hi Bella
Sounds good. If you could get the details that would be great, and I might check it out. Congrats on the expected bub #2 :)
Thanks

Hi Bella, am also interested in fitness classes, however do they involve the bubs or are they just sitting on the sidelines with a nanny? I know the PCYC Mighty Mums used to involve the bubs but now are just watched by a nanny. Nothing better than having a 6kg wriggling dumbbell!!!!

So I rang the number on brochure for getupandgotsv and found out they don't do it anymore...she said they do something at pcyc so to ring them...rang pcyc and got advised group is called busy little bodies. Number rang out...annoying.

Hi guys my DD was born July 2010 so quite a bit older. She has a few issues tho that put her closer in development to a 3 month old. I'm crashing cos this is the first Tsv thread I've seen here (even tho I'm in the Burdekin we spend A LOT of time in Tsv).
Best place for ur bubs when they're toddlers is Lollipops. They run wild, scream, jump, fall over and no one gives u foul looks!!
As for the cold weather... it's absolutely ridiculous. Hubby gets up at 3 for work (cane) and for some stupid reason I get up with him. So freaking cold at that time of the morning. Actually I'm still cold at 7 when I get up with the kids so we all hug up under a blanket next to the heater til 9ish. Housework can wait :P

:waves: welcome. I say the more the merrier. Had a pleasant surprise on the weekend. It seems domain central has a parenting room (round the corner from barkins) good to know for future reference I think as there are some good stores there
Hey all! I was meant to come back and post about fitness classes. Apparently its been advertised in one of the mum to be mini mags - but the class is on Friday morning at the Holy Family Centre in pilkington st. I think its about $10. The instructor looks after all the kids while you exercise. Not sure of time but I think its around 930 or 10. Sorry, my friend did tell me but I have pregnant brain!

Hi all
I am a first time mum (3 wks old in 2 days) and I am new to Townsville, I would love to meet up with other mums and to make some new friends in the area, I live in Bushland Beach and not sure where to start. I am married with 1 child and I am 33 so I guess people of similar age would be good, but Im not picky! :)
Shelley :)

Hi shelly
I'm a first time mum also, bub is now 4 months old and i am 29 so about same age. Happy to meet up if you like. PM me if you are interested. Some other suggestions I could give is get in touch with IMPS and take the new babies sessions qld health offers at kirwan campus. After the classes you then form your own mothers group and usually theirs bubs are around the same age so you can share experiences.

Hi shelly
Was online this morning and saw a message from you (I think), but hadn't a chance to reply until now. Then strangely it has disappeared -confusing. Did you send me one saying you wanted to meet up or am I losing my marbles? I just tried to PM you and it said I can't. Think you may need to adjust your settings...

Sounds good. You just need to fix your private message settings and that way we can chat and discuss a meet up

Hi nerdgirl99,
I also have a Sept 5 2010 bub too, and i've never tried the fitness sessions with my bub. He's pretty much active himself :D
Hope to hear from yah, Trish
Hi, I know this thread is quite old now but if anyone is still around Townsville and would like to meet up, that would be great. I have a 2 and a half year old boy and a 10 month old girl (March 2011). We moved up to Townsville from Sydney last Jan, and even though i've been here for a year haven't really met many people.
Hi juells, I'm always happy to meet new people. I have a almost 11mth old boy. If you private message me your details we can meet for coffee or something one day.
Cheers,
Lansta
Hey Juells! I know your post was a few months ago, but i'm new to this & I'm always keen to meet new people :-) been here since Jan last year as well & haven't met many people as I was to exhausted from work & being pregnant to go anywhere. I have a 7.5 month old son. Hope you're still keen to meet up with people :-)
