OK so we're looking into getting Eliza her high chair of course the one I like is $299 :o can someone explain why High chairs cost so much and are the expensive ones just as good as the cheaper ones? Is it better to have all the wheels locked or just two.

Any brands you have had and didn't like or any you just think are the bees knees...suggestions pwese

We have a Chicco Polly, which from memory cost $299. I too was thinking to myself - "why are these chairs so expensive"? Well I must admit, it's well worth the money we paid for it. You can adjust it several different heights and also recline the chair. It's really sturdy and has all the necessary safety straps ...etc.... When the children are older, the chair can be seated at the table.

I hate high chairs! Argh! If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't have bothered.

We have a high chair wasting away in the spare room. We bought one of the ones that straps onto a normal chair and it is waaaay better. Very portable, so easy to take bubs out to dinner, or to a friends house or wherever. Easy to clean, with adjustable straps and removeable trays. And they last the whole way...from starting to eat solids, to sitting at the table with parents for a proper dinner time as a toddler. Gotta love it!

Well it is on wheels so you can take it anywhere with you. If I am making breakfast I wheel DS into the kitchen with me.

The tray comes off making it easy to clean.

The chair is easy to take apart and clean! Which is a MUST!!

The chair reclines so baby can give themselves a bottle or if they fall asleep while eating you dont have to disturb them! lol

The height is adjustable so it fits with any chairs or tables.

It is easy to pack up and take away with you if needed.

It turns into a toodler chair when the tray is taken off.

It basically suits all purposes. Worth the $$! :D

I'm not sure about the chicco - I haven't really examined it closely - but the one thing that I would recommend you do is check out where the tray sits when bubs is in the high chair - we got given a highchair (thank god we didn't buy it or I would be sooooo annoyed!) - The tray sits around DD's shoulders. Ie when she's trying to eat food off the tray with her fingers, she can't actually reach it because the tray is too high. This is common with most of the high chairs I've seen too! I don't understand it. The only one that I"ve come across that doesn't have the tray up that high is a Fisher Price one, apart from the portable ones that Noo described.

We hardly ever use our highchair anymore for this reason. Instead we use the strap on one, like Noo, pretty much all the time now. So be careful!

We bought as babyco one i think. It was rubbish! Anna couldn't even reach the tray. It was up too high until she was about 15 months! She would have to feel round for her food! poor love! Or we would have to sit her on a cushion!

I'd definately sit her in it to see how she fits before i buy one next time.
I didn't really care whether they had lockable wheels, she's not going anywhere!

Sounds like you have got your eye on a good chair Nat, just make sure you check to see if Eliza would be able to actualy reach her food on the tray! I do think it's worth paying extra for aswel!

Yep to all of that. I really don't think you'd be disapointed Pixie. If I managed to talk DH in to buying it, I'm sure you'll have no probs!!;)

I have an Infa "Seville" FarmYard Friends Green Hi-Lo chair...and it's brilliant (and REALLY nice looking).

I'd found that most highchairs were ugly to look at...so when I found this (at a small baby store) I was much impressed (partly because it was cheaper than the others I had in mind, and partly because it was better looking).

I got mine for $180...I think that's standard price.

It's a hi-lo highchair, with several different positions (3 or 4 - I only usually use one of them).

It can recline to 3 different positions.

The tray can lock in different positions (2 or 3 - again, I only use the "tightest" position).

There's a removable tray insert...kinda like a "serving tray" which you can remove to clean (while serving another course on the "other" tray). That probably doesn't make sense...it's hard to explain.

There's a mesh bag underneath (similar to the basket under a pram).

Locking wheels.

Padded seat.

Easily removable padding - good for cleaning.

Adjustable "arm rests" (when the tray isn't attached).

Adjustable foot rest.

There might be more.

I couldn't find a photo of it online, except on eBay... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BNIB-INFA-SEVILLE-HIGH-CHAIR-HI-LO-CHAIR-GREEN_W0QQitemZ7776485410QQihZ018QQcategoryZ2986QQ cmdZViewItem

You can't see the cute design behind hte girl's body in that photo...but there's a cute animal picture in nice light colours. The colour of the backrest isn't ALL green...it's thinn-ish (5mm wide) vertical stripes...light green and white.

There's also this one, which a different design, but still the same.

It might ease your bankbook a bit...

Hey Nat!

I had different highchairs for each of my kids and I say ... the simpler the better!

For Bella I had a mothers choice which was thickly padded, fantastic harness, several height settings, huge tray at a good height and reclined when necessary! It was also ... a pig to clean (trapped food under the seat flap and in creases!) the tray went over bubs head and didn't have much clearance, it was bulky to store, the fabric tore easily and it had a bar arrangement for the tray to clip down onto which would have hung bub by the neck if she had have slipped under! Needless to say ... I got rid of it!

For Daniel, I had a steelcraft avalon ... one of the simplest highchairs I could find! It was easy to clean, folded to a small size, great harness and huge tray. The fabric did come apart at the seams in one place, but other than that it was (and still is for visitors) great!

For my next one ... if it ever happens:rolleyes: , I will be using Daniel's highchair, but would really rather have an ikea antilop! The tray site nice and low, it is all plastic so easy to clean, it has a bar between bubs legs to prevent "slippage", my kids have been happy in one when we have been out and the legs come off easily making it easy to transport or tuck away into a small space. It is also incredibly cheap!

OK, will stop waffling now :ecomcity:

Ultimately ... it is your choice!

Pixie, I've got to second Sassy Mummy's choice of the Infa highchair - I have the yellow version "Baby Giraffe" and love it. It seemed all the highchairs available when I was shopping were just black, black, black, so the sunny yellow was a nice change to see.

The storage basket underneath is great for bibs - and we love the different heights it can adjust to.

And I can't speak highly enough for their after-sales service - a little bit broke when we were assembling the highchair, and after a call, the next day the Qld sales manager turned up on my doorstep with the spare part.

The price was nice too - gave me more $ to buy other bubby things with...
