So it's probably just heightened my fear of something happening when we go overseas in the next few weeks (I must sound so paranoid)

Good. I'm glad they didn't take him alive.
Apparently the USA have his body and have confirmed it and the President will be making an official announcement soon.
As to what does thie mean to Australia?..well it has the potential to unstabilise the relationship that any of the western nations have with the Arabic world. It's a potentially world changing event. It may either stir up or distablise future terrorist events.
It will be interesting to see what Obama has to say about it all...i.e the news reporting at the moment is making no bones about the fact that they set out to kill him... so much for the concept of justice via judge and jury in civil world.
I feel kind of happy/ relieved for the world but also a bit scared as to what it may stir up

sorry I more so meant if it's happened on Sunday night that isn't long enough to get a positive dna match so saying we killed him prior to a positive match seems like sheer stupidity when the backlash that could come despite them being supposedly on a higher level of security how much more secure could you go realistically in that time? Bases over there haven't had security increased.
Assume we'll later have to listen to conjecture the rest of the day.

If Osama has been killed this is a very scary proposition for every country who is part of the western alliance. I gather, that you believe that either
a) the plane that entered the towers was not actually a passenger flight, and actually shot a missile into the tower. (which I have my skeptic thoughts about the pentigon)
b) or the towers had been an arranged blasting. Because it is said the way those towers came down, looked the same way as it would if dynamite was planted at the right places.
And the reason to do it, was to get the American public / the world to want to start a war on Iraq, as well as put the fear of god on the Americans in order to make them easier to control. A huge fear tactic created by the Bush Government.
Am I in the ball park or way off?

I believe America wanted to go in probably for oil and gas and needed the support of their country to do it.
The whole situation of terriorist being able to hi-jack planes like they did just doesn't add up. Too much of it woudl require the assistance of the US officals.
And I believe the media is fed a version that suits. I still remember watching that night and seeing clear live footage of a 4th plane that was shot down - by the next day it was completely unreported ANYWHERE.

My 2 cents and suspision:
America and the world in general is getting tired of the war, they are seeing their family and friends killed fightening a seemingly endless and unwinable war. They are starting to question further involvement and given the number of American casuality; their military is probably desperate for new soldiers to enrol.
All this unrest is not conjusive to the US government desire to stay in Iraq for whatever reason they have. So, now they fake the dealth of Bin Laden knowing alot of American's would react how they do, saturate the global media with images of American's dancing in the street. All this timed perfectly with the media releases about the difficult 'spring' war they are facing and the 'resurgence' of AQ.
What does it do? Insight rage into those small fundamentals who want to bring down the western world (and I am sure the media is going to search really hard to display this hatred to the west).
So the reported death of an imagined figurehead who actually has very little to do with AQ these days serves to reignite the emotional and physical strength of those disenchanted ppl to get back to supporting the US military compaign.
They will call for more forces in Iraq and we will see many many many casualities. We will put up with it because we are being told we are fighting war of increased threat and power. There will be talk of nuclear weapons and all the rest of it.
The sad thing is; it will become a self fulfilling provacy given enough time. We will be become pawns of this political chess game.
ETA: I think they are there for oil. Whoever controls the oil controls the world. Google Peak Oil and you will find alot of credible, scary sciene amongst alot of propaganda.

To me, it looked and seemed like Bush was getting off on the whole thing! He had his moments where he was frowning and had pained looks on his face but the man was (is) an incredible actor who always, always played up to the cameras and media whenever he could.
I think he's more evil than Osama, personally. He almost seemed excited about the war.

I know that I had heard this myself, but it was a smaller aircraft with less fuel that the towers were designed to withstand. I think I heard it on the news, but it was many years back.

Generalisations are our first point of call. Especially in this instance. We have not been told the truth about the conflict in Iraq, Afghanistan. The more I learn, the more I realise how much we are lied to.
I want to know the source of a persons information, how was it gained, who told you, what are their qualifications, and what is their agenda. Have they got something to gain here?
I must say, I prefer what some of you coin "conspiracy theorists" other sheeple. I prefer them because they do not buy every thing they are being told via the media. It is a fact that the media has much to gain from keeping the public in the dark.
This is one fact I can not get my head around. On the 16th June 2009 the American congress voted for $106 BILLION dollars for MORE WAR. How many of you will ever question why?

An analysis done decades earlier (about aeroplanes that existed at that time) about a theoretical collision done by the people who got paid to build it doesn't mean much..
I highly doubt they factored in a direct impact - they might have considered a glancing blow I guess (which is a tiny fraction of the impact).
Apparently an aeroplane once hit the empire state building which is why they considered it.

He was wanted for murdering hundreds of people well before September 11.
It's a shame it took sept 11 before anyone had the conviction to go get him.

No. I talk to my lecturers, read journal articles, and do my own independent research. Though I am no expert on this field, I search for those who are and I question what they say.

Opti - I think when people say "America" they mean the US Govt. I know I do. In the 1970s, on the 11th September ;) the US Govt funded and supported a coup in Chile which killed far more people than the Twin Towers. Friends of mine were tortured, for many hours.
I cannot help but harbour a little bit of bitterness.
I'm also angry at our govt - for the treatment of asylum seekers and other horrible events we've been involved in. When I hear people say "Australians are racist" I do not take it personally, we are a racist nation. But I know that I personally am not racist.

I agree with you that there are some seriously questionable people out there who gain quite a bit from making up conspiracy theories. Some of them are just crazy, BUT there is a lot of lies and strong forces behind the lies and misinformation that is mainstream discourse. What ends up happening is that a majority of people remain unconscious to reality.
I think people should be checking their facts and questioning what is put before them. There are some people who question and seek out truth, and there are spectators who look at the world as though it is a source of entertainment, do not question or look further and wind up placing bad people in powerful positions.
Didnt read all the posts, and have no interest in getting in an argument...my reaction to this news was 'Wow!...they have his body too?!....about time'.
