At the moment I'm doing a job helping out the grandparents while their parents are away and it's one of my regular families and today was my first day and it stressed me out!

First of all I have to drive a 4x4 which im not really that comfortable with but I manage but to make it that much more stressful the grandfather wanted to come in the car with me to pick up his grand daughter, I know you're all going to say thats very understandable that he wants to pick her up and I know it is and what grandparents are like but it just put a lot of pressure on me and my driving when I was already quite nervous about it. He was also talking about coming in the car with me to drop her off at school tomorrow morning, now im thinking oh no its going to happen for the rest of the 10 days!!

Im also struggling because I like to do my own thing and dont like people watching over me. Im trying so hard to just let the grandparents do most and me just help when and where it looks like they need a hand but then again it stresses me because they dont know how things are done and the 6 yr old ended up in tears over something I knew I could've prevented but didnt want to look like I was trying to take over the grandmother and this is a very happy 6 yr old that i have never seen cry in the two years I've looked after her!!!

Also the baby went down without her before bed bottle and the grandmother didnt listen to my advice that she has to be wrapped before the bottle otherwise she gets distracted and wants to play :banghead:

I think in the reason I'm having so much trouble is because the grandparents are probably the sweetest grandparents I've ever worked with and because they're so sweet and nice I dont like trying to tell them how things normally work!
That feels a lot better now I've got it out :o

Oh BL!:hugs: :hugs:

I can understand how you would feel with not being able to do your own thing!!

Is it possible to use your own car? I am sure someone would understand if you are not used to a 4x4....

Maybe you could sneak the kids off into another room to explain what to do/say around older people may help!!?

I am sure you are a fantatic carer and it always sounds like you have the childrens best interest in mind!! If you want you can come and nanny my kids....I will even go far away and let you do your own thing!!!

P.S I do drive a small car......heck, even if I drove a big car, I would get you a smaller one just to take my kids around!!

Your allowed to have a whinge, its a our duty.....

Anyway, I know how you feel, for me its when we visit DPs grandparetns.....and use to happen when I went to his parent place too..... Its because they are OLDER, and it is a respect thing for me...... I cant tell them not to do something or how to do it, as I think they might get upset, and I dont like seeing old people upset.... thats me anyway.....

As for the 4WD, dont stress, just stay calm.....and although it is hard when you feel like your being watched, you will get the hand of it..... I have only driven a big car twice, and once I got the hang of it, I was fine....just took a little while into the driving......am still nervous when DP gets into the car with me.....lol......

Cheer up...maybe even talk to the kids as M23G said...tell them that they have to work with you & their grandparents to make things work...depends on how old they are I suppose.....

Thank you all my chat buddies for your lovely support!! I would probably take you up on your offer m23g but then Id risk losing LM as a friend

Yesterday the situation got a bit worse, they said they'd be ok without me in the afternoon but when i came back at 3 the grandparents told me they couldnt get the baby to have her afternoon nap and she was grizzly for the rest of the day until it was 5:30 and she was too tired to move! The 7 yr old fell asleep because she was feeling really sick poor little thing it seems like shes caught a virus :(.

But on a good note today went well I worked all day and the grandparents went and saw a movie so i was allowed to do my thing and the grandpa didnt come to the school with me :smiliedance: driving was much easier and im used to the car now! Then the 7 yr old got home from school and was even sicker than yesterday and just watched tv and I had to feed her dinner to her and she didnt want me to leave :crying: it must be so hard on her being sick without mum and dad at home.
