Okay I tried all day to get DD to do something on the potty and nothing.

She's 20 months old and i want to potty train her as soon as I can. I have had the potty for about 3 months and i continualy ask her is she needs a poo poo or wee wee on the potty. She always says no.

She goes away and wants privacy when she is doing a poo in her nappy, and says poo poo when i change her nappy and she's pooed. She just doesn't know when she's weed. I left her nappy off all day and she will sit on the potty and not do anything. I gave her loads to drink and she just wouldn't wee! Then she got off today and 2 seconds later she looks down and she had weed on my floor! So i stuck a nappy on her and she weed loads straight away! (i gave her a bath 10 mins later and the nappy was soaked!!)

Do you think I should keep trying or leave it a bit longer?

hey  how are you going?

I would probably wait a little bit longer maybe in another 3-4 months b4 training her. I have a good friend with 3 yr old twins and her girls were only trained just after their 2nd bday! they took to it really quickly and well then, when they trusted the potty and not having a nappy on!! :-) I have a DD who is almost 17 months and tonight she accidently pooped in the bath! it totally freaked her out and me too! it made me think....i dont think she has ever seen a poo before !! I mean sure we clean it up after her and she kinda knows what she has done but shes never really seen one do u know what im saying? like Ive nevr shown her what she has put in her nappy, its just been wrapped up and binned. so the look of a poo as it was exiting her body just made her cry and cry and she was shaking too, the poor thing. I whisked her out of the bath and calmed her down but yea she was a bit shocked I think!!! Do u think your DD is scared of seeing her excretions or maybe scared about thinking of doing them?

Oh how I wish she was scared of her poo! Nope, she loves poo! If she does a poo when she wakes up and i don't get in to her room pronto, she likes nothing more than taking her nappy off and playing with her poop!:barf:

I guess it's just me trying to push her into potty training when she's not quite there. I know im answering my own question but i think you are right aswel, maybe another couple of months.

Man i hate changing nappies!:banghead:

natasha,
your situation sounds exactly like mine. DS would sit on the toilet for 45 mins and nothing. but as soon as he gets off, he would go in his nappy. i think it was a matter of readiness. i also think DS was a bit scared of the whole situation which changed when we put him into daycare and he could see all the other kids doing it. it would be a weird experience for them and you have to be very patient and try not to force it too much because they can actually come to hate the whole process.....i know i've been there.

I would also just leave it for a bit longer. We struggled with ds1 for about a year trying to get him to toilet train and every one keep drilling into me that babies should be toilet trined by 1.5:banghead: I should have trusted myself in the first place and just left it till he was ready. In the end he gradually started to do it on his own and the one day he was fully toilet trained and we hardly had to push at all. In the end they will do it when they are ready and no amount of pushing will make them if there not. DS1 was just over 2.5 by the time he got the hang of it.
