I need some info about Coeliac Disease. My DS is 2.5 years and was diagnosed today.
I don't know anything about it.

The upside is that there is a huge awareness these days and there are a lot of bakeries and shops that have gluten free products.
My sister has it and I was surprised to hear how much gluten there is in our food - the stuff used to adhere flavour to rice crackers for example has gluten. But the last poster was right - there are so many gluten free products out there it is much easier to have a gluten free diet. My sister lived in London for a long time and the range of gluten-free food there is so limited compared to Australia - another reason to call it the lucky country.
I know a woman who has written a gluten free cookbook and she also has a website. She knows where to find all the gluten free ingredients that you might now want to experiement with (and her gluten free muffins are pretty good  ). I won't post it in the public forum, but if you are interested, PM me and I'll send it to you.
Cheers

Hi,
My daughter (4) was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in April, and started the strict gluten-free diet.
A week or two after she started the diet, she had more colour in her cheeks. She didn't feel any different, though, for about 6 weeks. Her bowels didn't change until after 2 months. We notice already that she has grown taller, her tummy has slimmed down, and many people, who haven't seen her for a while observe a big change in her.
We slipped up a bit a few weeks ago, and now she is not feeling well again. I notice now (i didn't before) that she is more grumpy if she's had gluten.
She is pretty agreeable about her diet, although she gets sad sometimes when she can't have things others can. She says "it's not fair" and I simply so "no, it's really NOT fair - it really sucks that you can't have what others have".
Parties are a bit tricky, but she chooses special food and takes along her party box. I take gluten-free lollies to replace the ones I have to take out of her lolly bag at the end.
I am really happy to share more, or answer any questions you might have.
I feel sad for her, but, on the other hand, there are so many worse things that can befall a child. We are grateful that this can be managed relatively easily, and that she can have a normal life.
