Hi guys
Just wondering what brand of Toddler Formula you use, if you do use it? DS only has cow's milk in his food (porriage, scrambled egg etc) he is still on S26 step 2.. I'm a bit reluctant in putting him onto cow's milk straight out (not sure how he would go on icy cold cow's milk either) and I would like to give him a Toddler Formula at least once a day.. any advice would be greatly apreciated.. Thanks!!
When my son turned 1 I went onto one of those toddler formulas, the Karicare one. Personally i didnt like the idea of the cows milk then, so had him on the toddler formula till 18mths :D Everyones different though. But My son wouldnt drink cows milk either, hated it. But I plan to do the same with my bubs when he is 1.

I was happy for DS to have cows milk from one year old (not before of course) but it never stayed down, he'd have these massive chucks- but only, say, once a week. Still messy but! I tried toddler formula and it hasn't happened since. He is 2 years, 3 months old. Toddler formula is marketed for toddlers aged 1-3 years so I guess I'll think about what to do next soon.
We are on the Nestle's one- because he is prone to constipation and it helps him out with that whereas the other kinds mess him up a bit. Buying Nestle doesn't sit well with me though so I look forward to stopping and hopefully having a boy who can get his calcium from cow's milk without being sick.
I also like it because one glass of toddler formula (the one we use anyway) has the same amount of iron of 32 glasses of standard milk. And lots of nutrients found in vegies. So I kinda feel that I have all his nutritional needs covered while we go through this fussy-eating stage... and it's a loooong stage!

my ds is 16.5 months old and he is lactose intolerant so he isnt on a toddler formula. his formula s26 is made for birth to 2 years. not sure what we will do when he turns 2 if he still cant handle soy or dairy.
i have heard alot of good things about the nestle toddler formula though :)

My son has been on S26 Gold from the day he started on formula.....he is now on S26 Gold Toddler.....I dont make it up on water though, all I do is add 1-2 scoop to cows milk......otherwise its 5 scoops to 175ml of water....
And you can use it in smoothies and cereal, to add some flavour as it is vanilla flavoured...

We are at the same stage - my lil man is 1 in 3 weeks and will be switching over to s26 toddler gold. I used this with DS1 and found it was excellent, as u know they are getting lots of added vitamins and minerals (not that mine are fussy eaters..more like eat anything in sight).
The reason I stayed with the s26 brand is I used their formula and didn't want to try another brand in case of a reaction.
All my kids were b/f for a month, I'm just one of those mums that doesnt really enjoy it but they get it for that month. Anyway all went on to S26, the twins started on S26Gold and then to the normal one cos it just got way too expensive. On their 1st bdays, cows milk was it. The twins now have a Heinz Nurture drink in the mornings or after their nap and a cup of milk b4 their bath and bed routine. They have yoghurt on their weetbix for brekki so they're getting their calcium. No1 DS had S26 toddler and hated it so he just got milk.

With DD1 she went straight on to cows milk and had one drink of Toddler Formula a day (think it was s26). She was a really good eater, so i wasn't really worried about nutrients too much. We only did that 'til she was about 2 1/2 though, summer kicked in and she liked the icy cold cows milk better.....
DD2 is really only getting stuck into solids now  , so i am giving her the Toddler Formula (Heinz Nurture as its the only one that didn't make her play up) morning and night, and cows milk in between. I started by giving it to her all the time, but she got really blocked up and cranky. She seems fine now though.
I've had DS on s26 toddler gold since he was about 18 months...he is now almost 2. He still has a couple of bottles throughout the day as he is an extremely fussy eater and need something to help supplement his diet . With all the food he eats containing milk i use Brownes Junior milk. It's just cows milk with added iron, zinc. calcium, vitamin D and protein.

With DS I was told by MACH nurses and GP that mostly the toddler formulas are a waste of money. If you have a child who isn't a fussy eater, and gets plenty of fruit and veg in a varied diet, then it isn't necessary.
If your toddler is a fussy eater, however, the formulas can be beneficial.
With DS he went onto cows milk at 1 yr, on cerals etc and just to drink. In summer he'd have it cold, in winter we'd warm it the same as a normal bottle.
Will be doing the same with DD, unless there's a medical reason why we can't.

Thanks for your replies everyone.. It was a great help!
I have a sample sachet of the Heinz Nuture Gold, I'll give that a go tonight or tomorrow and see how he goes with that. I was thinking that I might see how he goes with half of his regular formula and half of cow's milk so that it's cold but not too icy cold to put him off. He wasn't too keen on the weet bix and cold cows milk I gave him this morning! Not too sure about the Vanilla flavoured one, might be too strong in flavour, maybe when he's a bit older, sounds yummy though.
Thanks again!

Babyduck, if your DS doesn't like the cold milk, just warm it up!

I am interested to know more about toddler formula.
My DS is nearly one (In 9 days..:smiliedance: ) and he has 3 main meals a day plus morning tea and afternoon tea. For the 3 main meals he is given 200mls of Toddler Formula- Heinz. We tried giving him cows milk but he didn't like it.
Is toddler formula filling enough for them? Or should i just stay on the step 2 formula?
I may try giving him cows milk again in a month or so. Might give it to him diluted first.
My DS eats 1 220-250g jar of baby food with his lunch and dinner bottle. For breakfast he has 1 weetbix with his bottle. Should i be giving him more solids rather than more toddler formula?
Arghhh..so many questions. It can be so hard to know what to do.
Thanx.

Would sitting his bottle in a cup of hot water from the tap be ok? A friend has told me that heating milk up in the microwave destroys the nutrients, but would that include if its just heated up for a few seconds?

My DS is still on s26 step 2 and he is 13 months today! This afternoon we gave him a mixture of formula and milk (120mls water - 2 scoops formula and 80mls cows milk) and he didn't seem to mind it. You could give that a go with your DS or I have heard someone mention putting toddler formula with cows milk? but I am unsure of which brand that was..
I still would like to give my DS toddler formula once or maybe twice a day. He has a bottle in the wee hours of the morning then porriage for breakfast at about 8.30am and because he has a late nap (11-11.30am till about 1-1.30pm) I only give him a light lunch (Yoghurt & fruit or just fruit and a bickie) when he wakes and an afternoon bottle at about 3pm, then he has dinner at about 6-6.30pm and a bottle at bedtime. Sometimes he has a morning or afternoon snack.
Sounds to me like your DS is doing great though with what you've mentioned. Is he having 3 bottles of the toddler formula? Can your toddler formula be mixed with cows milk?
Hope all my jibberish (sp?) helped you in a way..

Thanx Babyduck...:)
Your jibberish made plenty of sense.
I might speak to the CHN on Monday about the formula i use and trying to mix it with cows milk. I am a little concerned that the cows milk will not fill him up as much as the formula. He's such a big boy and eats like a horse...i will be hearing it if he's still hungry!
Thanks again.
